GIGABYTE Reportedly Refuses to RMA Customer's GP-P750GM Power Supply

If you have been following the recent drama of GIGABYTE selling exploding power supplies, then you are aware of the happenings with GIGABYTE response, our PSU expert's response, and of course the massive backlash from customers. Today, according to a Reddit user u/Tinefol, GIGABYTE has refused to RMA the power supply that is eligible for the RMA program. The user is an owner of the GP-P750GM unit, which is part of the exploding units. He proceeded to open a ticket where he included the wordings from the company's press release, to which he got a response that "This press release is applicable only to the newer batches".

However, that is not the case. The press release states that GIGABYTE will offer RMA service on various models with the supported serial numbers. In the case of GP-P750GM PSUs, the RMA service is available for units with serial numbers ranging from SN20243G001301 to SN20453G025430. The customer that requested RMA has serial number SN20243G001306, which is eligible for return and exchange. The ticket response of "This press release is applicable only to the newer batches" holds no value as the press release does not refer to production time, but rather serial numbers of PSUs.

lexluthermiesterNo offense intended. That's a bit of a loaded question. Gigabyte themselves have models of PSUs that are very good and perfectly safe. Even some lesser known brands have excellent PSUs.

So a better question might be: Which PSUs models are the best to trust?

My personal experience is that EVGA has not made a bad PSU since their very first entries. Even then their PSUs never killed anything attached to them. EVGA has been a top notch company where customer service is concerned. Their RMA process compared to other companies is nearly effortless and painless.
Hi,
I'd change this to Sold instead of Made seeing evga does not Make psu's just rebrands them and sells them.
I have many 1200p2/ 1000p2/ 850p2/ 750p2 I agree they are quite good but are all Made by super flower not evga.

So AMD doesn't make CPUs and GPUs, they only rebrand them?

It is a known fact that while some companies do not "manufacture" their own PSUs, they have a direct hand in the design. This is why those particular Gigabyte models have been blowing up, they designed them and that design was flawed. The company that made them had little or nothing to do with the design, they just built them per the instructions given. So ultimately the accountability falls on the GigaByte design team, not the manufacturer.

lemoncarbonateEVGA, Seasonic, Superflower, those are the only PSU brands I will ever consider.
2nd priorities are Corsair and Be Quiet!. Be Quiet! and EVGA have the best customer service so far that I've ever experienced.

Quite agree. I only have one AX370 Gaming 5 board from them in my current system, solid board. But after this I think I will switch to other when upgrading. Their customer service is atrocious.
I have the same board in my VR rig and its solid - genuinely like it.
Their newer products, not so much... i also had my Aorus 3080 with factory AIO leak within a week or so of owning it

Absolutely spot-on, Jay!
Man, I thought the PSU thing was a shitpickle but adding the RMA catastrophe? Yeah, Giga's woes just exploded into a giga-shitpickle!

Steve just did a video where he tests the PSUs in question in real time and shows the testing methodology in detail.
Can not find any flaws in their testing methods or conclusions. The results speak volumes!

@ Gigabyte, you have made a series of mistakes. First was the design of these PSUs. Second was the very shady and malicious attempt to sweep it all under the rug by denying a problem existed and refusing RMAs. Third was the very transparent attempt to discredit the the testers and their methodologies. Fourth was the doubling down after facts proved there was a problem.

Seriously, own up, own the problem and make it right with everyone. Otherwise, your days a major player in the tech industry are numbered and that number is small. Trust is CRITICALLY important and you've lost a lot of it.

evga sells rebranded stuff, its usually not bad but i wouldnt bet on it unless i knew the specific model was good which nobody does that kind of research so i dont think its a good recommendation.

I'm not the one who was calling someone clueless for making a factual statement. Just saying..
noel_fsevga sells rebranded stuff
No, they have an active hand in the design of the PSUs they sell. Yes, they are contracted out for manufacture, but the factory follows the design specs given to them by the engineers at EVGA. This is common practice and does NOT reflect negatively on quality.

That might be reading into things a little too deeply.

TheLostSwedeThen you only buy Seasonic, FSP, HEC and the likes? Everything else are what you're referring to as "re-branded products" since most of the retail brands don't manufacturer their own PSUs.
And yes :).

Hahaha, actually, im that guy :D
EVGA units are generally solid until you get into the cheapies.
There is sooo much fud out there regarding who makes what when trying to track down EVGAs oems. Ive given up taking googles word for it. Its not that hard tbh. If you ask, they will usually tell you who builds their power supplies.

If they can back their cheap stuff, who the hell is going to buy the higher end components? Certainly not me, they are on my turd list.

I have Gigabyte's bad hardware just piling up in my office and I have been trying to get a hold of ANYONE from their company for over 3 months now. I have emailed, called, and opened tickets and as of writing this morning 10/22/2021 not only their tech support refuses to put me in touch with their RMA department representative, I am not able to get a hold of any manager or a customer service rep despite my voicemails, leaving actual messages with the receptionist. There has to be a law firm that is willing to take a class action suit against them because this is a violation of basic trade practices. They have promised to cover bad hardware under warranty however, they won't even respond anymore. They have sent the bad hardware that I had sent to them back to me after a month of long emails trying to check the status on a replacement! I am seriously considering taking them to a small claims court however, I think there needs to be a bigger impact because they are clearly trying to get away with not replacing their defective hardware which is defrauding their customers.

I've heard that lighting them up on social media generally nets the best results when you run into cs walls.

I have reached out to BBB already and even they couldn't get a response from Gigabyte and they said they will note their account that there was no response from them. They are defrauding customers at this point by not responding or honoring their warranty. I have reached out to Gigabyte by email, phone, social media, and through BBB so far to no avail. And their technical support is very reluctant to have someone reach out in any way to get the issues resolved. That's why I think I can't be the only person who is in this situation and it warrants a class action lawsuit.

To be fair. I only keep a brand on my avoid list until they show signs that they are doing better and learning from their past mistakes. MSI for example. They learned and they're doing better, even if they didn't like it. NZXT, while they didn't openly apologize for the way they handled the flaming case thing(legal liabilities are a thing), they made it right with their user base and replaced, at their cost, the problematic cases.

Gigabyte, microsoft and Apple are currently at the top of my Black List. Gigabyte has been there since 2011.

No, NZXT didnt. They sent one fixed model to youtubers, then sent a cheap flawed model to consumers. They kept doubling down on the problems repeatedly.
Giga? exploding hardware, refusing warranties.
MSI? To this day they still sell AM4 boards with VRMs that jump over 100C and thermal throttle on stock settings.
ASUS? The motherboards use UEFI to sneakily install their bloatware software into clean windows installs (Theres a BIOS option to disable it, but it defaults to on)
Corsair? After the iCue fiasco they're finally fixing, the fear of buying a case that relies on one software that could abandon support at any time... oof.

Fractal? They handled theirs well. I even asked them for a new USB-C port for my out of warranty case, and they just sent one free from sweden to AU, with nothing but a picture of the problem required.

MS tho? Is this because they want to push online logins? I've used a few surface tablets and they're fine, and i have no major issues with their OS's.

They didn't do that to me for one of my customers. They sent a whole new case and a prepaid return shipping label for the faulty one. I can't speak for YouTubers.

That as well as the hardware limitations and requirements. It's all slimy, low-life crap.
