Valve Unveils Steam Deck Final Packaging & Carry Case

Valve has recently completed the final Design Validation (DV) prototype for the Steam Deck incorporating improvements from the previous EV2 builds. This latest design revision also sees the confirmation of retail packaging for the device which consists of a simple cardboard box with a region-specific power supply, Steam Deck, carry case, and setup instructions. The portable carrying case for the 64 GB and 256 GB models was also shown with the 512 GB version set to receive a unique version. The Valve Steam Deck features an AMD Zen 2 processor with integrated RDNA 2 graphics and is available to pre-order at 399 USD for the 64 GB base model with new orders not expected to ship until Q2 2022. Valve will begin shipping these DV kits to game developers shortly allowing them to optimize their titles for the device before it begins shipping in February 2022.

I am liking this. I wish I did pre order for it but oh well.

Kinda gave a gamegear vibe at first look at it. Dunno, maybe just me.

Looks nice and simple. I like it but hardware wise I'll wait for reviews and possibly 2nd gen. Mobile gaming isn't really my thing, especially now with my work being done remotely from my flat.

but now you are stuck at home. So when you decide to go outside (I know, horrible thought), you can take your pc gaming with you!

Why sit on a train, trying to communicate with people? When you can be playing Poland Simulator - Witcher 3!

Edit: Joking aside, if you need to go visit family you dont like for holiday's, this can be a life saver!

simple box, carry case don't really matter, there will be a multitude of other accessories available for this from china on release
I never pre ordered, i'll just wait till it's available. Wonder if there will be any scalper action on these. Hopefully valve has plenty available on release.

People were selling their early pre-orders on ebay. So in other words, people were selling something they didn't have and a promise it will be shipped to them.

I just dont know if people took that offer up, never checked.

Do they even care what is inside the package before they pick it up? That is only US problem.

That I wouldnt know, but I guess normally no. I wouldnt be surprise if only the US has this type of crime, on the other hand I doubt its not just.

I like it-- sturdy, no frills packaging with a nice, form fitting case. It may not look pretty on YouTube unboxing videos, but I appreciate Valve trying to keep these costs to a minimum. I'm probably a rare exception in that I could not care less about the "experience" of opening an item. All I care about is that the packaging can safely survive the transit.

Actually, the page shows after Q2 2022. Who knows what that could mean, as I preordered on Jul 17th (the following day that they went live) and mine shows as after Q2 as well.

I didn't think I would want this but I find myself playing indie games with pixel graphics more often then triple A these days. I'm sure the handheld can work really well with these types of games. Plus working from home on my gaming computer makes we want to get away from it after a long day of end users forgetting their passwords.

There's no porch pirates over here because each package needs to be received in person. If you're not home they simply won't deliver the package.

We dont get that, even with specific instructions to handle packages, most of these idiots that deliver just dump and move on. FEDEX is one of those idiots.

They'd be out of a business within a week with our postal laws and regulations.

Pre-ordered this to save a spot for myself in case I actually want to buy it by the time it comes out. I know they weren't meeting their original delivery date, so I wasn't worried about spending an extra couple hundred this Christmas season.
