Cooler Master Announces HAF 500, MasterBox TD300 Mesh and MasterBox 500

Cooler Master launches today three new cases. The renowned HAF (High Air Flow) series is making a return with HAF 500. MasterBox 500 and MasterBox TD300 are launched alongside to provide users with a wide range of aesthetic and performance options.

The legendary HAF is making a strong comeback with HAF 500, with more models expected to follow early this year. Bearing classic dual 200 mm ARGB fans and large mesh intakes critical to the HAF series in identity and function, the HAF 500 boasts greater value in performance, build experience and visual design. The chassis comes upgraded with a rotatable 120 mm Sickleflow fan for dedicated GPU cooling, adjustable to various GPU lengths and to accommodate different system layouts. Built-in USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type C support in the I/O panel allows for greater data transmission efficiency and versatility. CM having a brainfart by sticking 200mm fan onto a 120/140mm fan mount. Thermaltake also had similar brainfarts.

yea that defeats the purpose of having such large fans when 140mm would be just as efficient.

The re-master of HAF-series was pretty easy on the design team, basically: "No one uses 5.25 anymore. We can remove all that and slap in two 200mm fans in the front and call it a day."

That is really bad, they also messed up launch of H500P(then it was updated with Mesh and few other changes) and now HAF 500 also has been ruined by some design choices. Also its funny how Matx TD300 can accomodate 3x3.5" drives while this larger one does only 2x3.5" drives. I am eagre to see what Steve from Gamers Nexus has to say about this.

It's just that CM have a hard on for 200mm fans. They like to put it whenever possible.

Adding the TD300 to the Masterbox series may be their biggest mistake. The Masterbox was supposed to be reserved for CM's flagship style cases. Instead, we get this budget case with break-away slot covers. I abhor these and should only appear in sub-$50 cases. The only place I found listing this chassis is on mwave.au for AUS$99. Just ridiculous.

That's the new "normal", we will never get pre-pandemic prices again. Have you seen the increase in raw material steel price? or aluminum? No way manufacturers can fit the same amount of feature-set for the old price. You can see that with Silverstone's review here (check the reps response).

Which results in marginal increases per unit, the beauty of scale in mass manufacturing. Might even have been completely offset by the fact that large parts of the case uses already existing manufacturing infrastructure.

The actual increase were also driven by padding profit margins… This is a 160€+ case, if we would go by just material and manufacturing the case would not be that expensive. At this point, you are paying for Brand and Design.

MasterBox is used for cheap to mid-range cases while its MasterCase that is highend to flagship cases. Also its only lower 2 slots with break-away cover while 2 on top reusable ones for GPU and they can moved to lower half if needed.

I used to have a HAF case circa 2008-10 that had a military-esque design, mesh side panel, "rocket launch" style covered power and reset buttons and a carry strap. What makes this case HAF?

The one positive is that the top is completely open so you can stick the LARGE fans that you get with the case on the top and buy some normal 120/140 for the front (or use negative pressure, that's also an option)

Or buy a lancool 215 (same problem but to a lesser degree) ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I see the 200mm fans on the front as a positive for slower, quieter fans with the same airflow, leaving the top open for Radiators.
