E3 2022 Cancelled, Including the Online Event

The Electronic Software Association (ESA,) the body organizing E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo), is reportedly sending e-mails informing top marketing reps from the gaming industry that it has cancelled E3 2022. This includes the online/digital event that was meant to succeed last year's event. This is yet another sign that trade-shows cannot be organized in the digital format, and that merely clumping a few participants' online events across a schedule does not amount to a trade-show, a major aspect of which are the human interactions during and beyond each individual event, or the show-floor—something not possible in the digital format.

Update 20:35 UTC: We have an excerpt from the e-mail being sent out to delegates from the ESA:

I don't want this to be to be a war thread about the virus, but I'm unvaccinated and still alive, also I wore mask for a while as others did an year ago, but not after that.

I'm still alive and kickin', not going to say "antivaxx propaganda" but that's just me. My body, my choices. I can talk more about this aboout general nonsense thread if u tag me or in PM.

/just my 2 cents.

I'll just say young/healthy or not, it's far riskier than the flu if unvaccinated.
lexluthermiesterNot for everyone.
No, but I didn't say that either. I spoke statistically.

My condolences for your friend.

No we're done. E3 was canceled because of Covid and it's worth a short discussion.

My point was, Covid is still dangerous, vaccinated or not, but to cancel a trade show over it when a better course of action is to take known-good precautions that everyone is used to at this point is just stupid.

I for one am proud we were able to discuss that civilly for a change. I think all the members, @MaenadFIN included deserve a serious pat on the back for not turning this into the usual poo fest.

Now lets try to keep it up...

I also should apologize for my use of the wording "idiotic." While no one fell for the fight-trap that could have prepared, the wording was certainly potentially antagonizing.

CallandorWoTyou don't want your booster fine get sick
Meanwhile I have several friends with boosters get wrecked by COVID. Personally, I do not care anymore after the govt decided it was a good idea to cancel my health insurance, my social security, and my vaccination certificate proving I've already taken two doses. If you're just gonna cancel it, I have no reason to bother

Pandemic is so last year, now the new trend is war

I stopped caring about whatever the numbers were several months ago (even before the war consumed my news feed lol), just tell me when it's safe to stop wearing masks or whenever/if I eventually need another booster, until then no news is good news (no new dangerous variant, no medical services tapped out, vacines are doing their thing, etc.)

I would think we're pretty much through with hard cancellation of events, in my opinion it was just an easy excuse for the E3

Hi,
The irony is China never really jabbed it's population and again are locked down last I read
Wonder if airports are still open outbound as in the beginning

I've not bothered with boosters
Probably won't unless something compelling happens.

These jabs are only good for 3-4 months.

unlike you, I plan to travel a lot, so I need my booster for some countries. America bores me, its a big earth, lots to see, lots to do.

France has universal healthcare... how did they cancel your health insurance exactly? It says you live in France.

Hi,
Yep so boring most people leave other native countries to be bored here

Find it a little ironic you're asking someone about a region they live when you haven't bothered fill in your region

My region has nothing to do with the context of the question asked to the post that was made.

Enjoy your water shortages in the South/West in ten years.

Let's not be rude to one another please. FWIW, I know the US (at least in terms of geography) is an incredible place.

Europe has similar beauty. Let's leave it there.

The red spiritHard to care about some stupid show, when there's projected food shortage, power shortage, supply chain for second time kicked in the plums and Russian may launch nukes and there's international recession.
You have to care about the things and people you love in a world like this to preserve your sanity.

To stay on topic: like others said, I suspect a different reason behind the decision. Game studios not wanting to spend money on a face-to-face event might be one. Covid was an acceptable excuse two years ago when we knew nothing about it, but it isn't now, imo.

I don't have much to care about and there aren't many people that I love. Anyway, E3 is probably just going bust or participants haven't cranked out enough stuff to show at event.
