Thermaltake Rolls Out Toughpower GF3 PSUs with PCIe Gen 5 Connector and ATX 3.0 Compliance

Thermaltake today rolled out the Toughpower GF3 series high-wattage PSUs in the market, which it had unveiled early-July. These PSUs are claimed by Thermaltake to be ATX 3.0 ready, as well as include a PCI-Express Gen 5-compliant 12+4 pin connector that's capable of delivering up to 600 W of power with the ability to handle +100% excursions for at least 100 µs, making them ready for next-generation graphics cards and platforms. The Toughpower GF3 is being released in six wattages—1650 W, 1350 W, 1200 W, 1000 W, 850 W, and 750 W. The top 1650 W variant comes with two 12+4 pin PCIe Gen 5 connectors, while all lower models have one of them. These aside, the PSUs meet 80 Plus Gold efficiency standards, feature most common electrical protections, a multitude of standard 6+2 pin PCIe power connectors ranging from two on the 750 W model, to eight on the 1650 W one, at least two 8-pin EPS across the board, and 135 mm fans to keep cool.

But do you really want to support thermaltake's practices?

Why not a Seasonic, or Fractal, or Be Quiet?

Sorry, I didn't explain myself fully. I just meant glad I waited for these new types of PSU's, I didn't think they would be arriving this soon, and if Thermaltake is coming to market, it means others are coming soon too.

I actually would not buy a Thermaltake, Corsair or Seasonic or EVGA only for me.

Perhaps I will add BeQuiet and Fractal to that list as well, still not sure how I feel about a case manufacturer moving into PSU space though...

Perhaps the longboard was meant to imply that they will be "rolling" away with your wallet. And since there are no prices listed, they are most likely gonna be high, but they didn't want to be responsible for causing anyone to have a heart attack....

As for the Cactus, well, to me that implies that you "can't touch this" without wearing a pair of well-financed gloves

'They see us rollin...'

And 'You can't touch this! (apart from with heavily cash-padded gloves)

Ayy, lmao! That was too subtle even for me!

Be Quiet and Fractal are like almost every other company they dont make any of the units they sell its all bought from a 3rd party OEM in China so they dont actually make any PSU they sell
Second both Be Quiet and Fractal are not new on the PSU market they have been around for many years and both of them have had both good and bad series over the years

Why wouldn't you want a PSU that's been ridden by a skateboarding cactus?

Longboard. Different beast, used by different sub-culture. And it is still popular in some regions of the world.

In time. I miss the heavy-duty PSU reviewer guys who could absolutely decimate any marketing trick, cheap design and poor manufacturing...
Reading PSU reviews is my second most favorite thing after reading audio gear reviews.

Just curiousity to ask, I pretty like Thermaltake's case like Tower 500, but i have no idea about their power supply. Is that so bad? Was there any issue before?

There are few trusted PSUs brand for me, and the likes of Thermaltake is not something I would consider. I would say the same for MSI and Gigabyte. Asus releases good PSUs, but given the Asus tax and the fact that these are basically Seasonic PSUs, I would recommend just buying from Seasonic.

MSI for the most part uses CWT which is the same OEM Corsair uses

If the price is right something like the MSI MPG A750GF is not a bad option
www.tomshardware.com/reviews/msi-mpg-a750gf-power-supply-review

Gigabyte on the other hand uses MEIC for some of their stuff which is the OEM that made all the exploding Gigabyte models
Until there is proof that MEIC has gotten its act together i would not touch anything made by them with 10 feet barge pole

Given that the 750W supports only two "legacy" PCIe 6+2 pin power connectors natively, I wonder if they're going to ship 12VHPWR-to-PCIe adapters with these PSUs, or expect customers to buy them separately?
