Ubisoft Announces Open-World Star Wars Outlaws Game

Star Wars Outlaws, the first-ever open-world Star Wars game, is coming to Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC in 2024. With development led by Ubisoft's Massive Entertainment in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games, Star Wars Outlaws invites you to play as cunning scoundrel Kay Vess (Humberly González), who - along with her loyal companion Nix (Dee Bradley Baker) - must pull off one of the greatest heists the Outer Rim has ever seen.

Set between the events of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, Star Wars Outlaws takes place in a time when the Galactic Empire relentlessly pursues the final defeat of the Rebel Alliance, and the criminal underworld is thriving. Kay will take on high-risk, high-reward missions from the galaxy's crime syndicates as she seeks the means to start a new life.
A first look at Star Wars Outlaws gameplay will be shown at Ubisoft Forward Live on Monday, June 12. The event begins at 10:00AM PT / 1:00PM ET and can be watched on Ubisoft's Twitch channel.

Star Wars Outlaws is launching on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC in 2024.

Massive Entertainment has worked on some quality games in the past. They have the employees to make a really good game. Around 650 employees last I heard. If Ubisoft gives them a decent budget and doesn't try to rush them too much then this game could turn out to be really good.

Here's hoping for the best and this doesn't turn out to be yet another half-assed attempt at a Star Wars game.

Hmmm, not a big fan of Open World only games to be honest... Looking forward to the gameplay before passing judgement.

I'm still miffed that 1313 was shelved - that looked like it could have been promising.

Hopefully, since Ubisoft is involved, it doesn't turn into some bullet sponge game like The Division. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the Division games, I just don't want to see that gameplay/style applied to something like this.

I thought this might be the KOTOR remake at first, but I guess that's still stuck in development hell because Sony muscled in and ruined what Aspyr and Lucasarts were making good progress on - conflict of interest with their own Jedi Survivor franchise I think.

not following how Sony muscled in? Jedi Survivor is under EA/Respwan and KOTOR is EA/Bioware. EA lost the exclusive Star Wars game deal recently so Ubisoft can publish any SW lucas arts/disney lets them.

my guess is the combat will be similar to the division although i see no mention of on-line only so that's good

Sony joined the fray and put in more cash than everyone else up until that point, so even though it's not their IP if they're going to put their name on it it needs to live up to their cinematic standards. There's a lot of rumour around the KOTOR remake, but I was watching this a few days ago and it's quite informative:

Hmm, huge fan of open world only games to be honest. Cannot wait to get back into the Stars Wars universe without a light saber and a souls like experience.

Past me pre-2012 would've been excited for this, alas Disney's treatment of my once favorite franchise has killed any interest in it a long time ago. I'll be happy to read some good reviews about the game mind you, but modern Star Wars storytelling leaves a lot to be desired.

Besides, can any Star Wars game ever top Republic Commando? :)

Here's the thing: the game sounds great, but I'm so bored of retreading the same timeline again and again from different perspectives.
I'm desperate to leave the Episode 1-9 timeline and fall in love with a new story in a new era (the High Republic era stuff that's been teased sounds pretty cool).

It's a big reason why people still love KOTOR: the totally different era within the same universe. We need that magic again - so many brilliant, untold stories in Star Wars lore; long before the Skywalker saga.

KOTOR 1 & 2, also Jedi Academy was quite good.
