Nintendo Direct Scheduled for Tomorrow
Nintendo has announced that its summer Direct live event will be airing tomorrow (June 21), starting 7:00 a.m. PT / 10:00 a.m. ET—their social media updates mention that it will be a long presentation. Around forty minutes of introductory material and footage is expected, which is a little bit surprising when you consider that their Switch console has a fairly threadbare future release schedule. Nintendo of America has implied that Pikmin 4 is a headline act, but hardcore fans will be wondering whether Metroid Prime 4 will get some attention (hopefully in a gameplay trailer)—after all, Retro Studios has been working on it for more than four years!
Sony and Microsoft have already revealed future game releases plus hardware during their own showcase events, which have effectively replaced this year's cancelled Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). It is highly unlikely that Nintendo will present a Switch successor tomorrow, given statements made by company president Shuntaro Furukawa recently, so we will probably be watching a mainly software-focused Direct. Insiders predict that a bunch of casual first party titles are in the pipeline—Everybody 1-2-Switch! is almost certainly getting previewed tomorrow. The re-emergence of Level-5 as a strong third party developer could mean re-showings of Professor Layton, DecaPolice and Fantasy Life (previously presented in the February 2023 Direct).Tune in on June 21 at 7:00 a.m. PT for a #NintendoDirect livestream featuring roughly 40 minutes of information focused mainly on Nintendo Switch titles launching this year, including new details on Pikmin 4:
