Evesham launches notebook with NVIDIA 8700M GT

UK system integrator Evesham has announced a new range of Zieo notebooks. Their NX600-HD is powered by the NVIDIA GeForce Go 8700M GT. The card comes with 512MB of GDDR3 memory, but Evesham doesn't mention any clock speeds.

The NX600-HD has a 17in display with a native resolution of 1,920x1,200, a choice of a Core 2 Duo T7500 or T7700 processor, 2GB of 667MHz DDR2 memory and 100 to 250GB of storage.

Other features include a DVI port, four USB 2.0 ports, FireWire, S/PDIF, TV-out, Gigabit Ethernet, modem, Wi-Fi, a memory card reader and an Express Card slot.

The NX600-HD weighs 3.95kg, so it's not something you'd want to carry around with you. It measures 397x284x44mm (WxDxH) and it has about 2h battery life according to Evesham.

I very much doubt that that can even reach 2hrs battry life.......

It probably can, laptops usually implement something to reduce CPU speeds, so in this case, Intel's SpeedStep is likely enabled by default. Can increase battery time by a bit.
Also, some laptops have implemented a switch, so you can use on-board graphics from the Intel chipset, or the discrete graphics, like the 8700 that this laptop has.

1900x1200 on a 17" ? magnifying glass anyone ? not as if you could even game at that res as the 8700 512m or not wouldnt handle those kind of resolutions with modern games

the numberpad seems to be on the left hand side of the keyboard. That actually may be a better scheme in the long run since you can now set those keys to some useful hotkeys in games and apps because you dont have to lift your hand off your mouse which is what most games and applications require already. Looks like a good decision on that one. :respect:

its not the cpus that drain the most power from a laptop (especially with Intel and AMD stepping up to conserve energy) its the graphics subsystems and HDDs

Little off topic: Looking at the resolutions that they can achieve with small screens in a laptop, why don't we have something like a 19" desktop monitor with 1920 x 1200?

probably can. laptops can do many things to save power, first is dropping the lcd brightness a bit. second is dropping the cpu and gfx card clocks (ex my cpu can go from a 12x multiplier all the way down to a 6x multiplier which is 1 ghz). third you have to remember a mobile cpu uses much less voltage than a standard desktop version, at 1 ghz my laptop is at .95 volts. at 2 ghz it's at 1.175 (undervolted to .975). so there are quite a bit of things you can do to save power.

2h should defintely be possible!

mine Acer 5652 (details in sig) has 3,5h with an 7600go.... (with power optimizations on)
under full load (batterie gaming = trackmania nations) it endures app. 2h.
