Rambus' 8 GHz XDR 2 DRAM in 2007?

Channel Register reports that Rambus has a patent pending RAM technology dubbed XDR 2 that will initially start at speeds of 8 GHz. The company says it tweaked the timing circuits to adapt to '"process, voltage and temperature variations during real-time operation."' There is also Rambus' micro-threading technology that allows "the memory controller to send, say, four data requests in the time it would previously have taken it to send just one." Expect XDR 2 RAM to be used in video cards rather than as system memory.

Play Station 3 will be using XDR as a system memory. This is already a known fact (for the PS3 , not at all).
