AMD to Launch RV670 on November 19th

AMD is preparing to launch its new Radeon HD 2950PRO (RV670) chip on November 19, 2007. The company recently notified graphics card makers that design verification test (DVT) samples will be sent out at the beginning of this month and AMD will start producing a batch of 1.5 million chips in the first week of November. The Radeon HD 2950PRO will continue to adopt the R600 chip structure. It will support DirectX 10.1, Shader Model 4.0, PCI Express 2.0, UVD and CrossFire technology. The chip also features built-in HDMI, HDCP and 320 stream processors per GPU. The Radeon HD 2950PRO will come in two versions, Gladiator and Revival, with Gladiator adopting 512MB GDDR4 graphics memory, a GPU frequency of 825MHz and a memory frequency of 2.4GHz. Revival will adopt 256/512MB GDDR3 graphics memory, a GPU frequency of 750MHz and a memory frequency of 1.8GHz.

Yes we all have our own opinion on things, but your "fanboism" is simply at an immature level. on a more serious note, i wonder what the memory timings are, coz my 2900xt can hit those memory speeds no sweat and the core can bypass the stock on gladiator. Im SO hoping that there is some form of software support for voltages, timings etc nearer to or soon after the release so i can tweak and clock my 1gb2900xt some more.

But looking GREAT!! AMD/ATI appear to be pulling out some nice things of late. this is looking very promising!

I find it very interesting that this hasn't been done already, now that you point it out...I hate how manual control over VGAs is so far behind the rest of the system...it's really aggravating

maybe not, who knows what the price of these will be. the pro may end up being far cheaper, yet capable of matching gladiator in core speed

this new line of boards should be a major jump for ATIs camp, Far More efficiency , new capabilities. Yes the X2900XT maybe faster than the 2950 Pro, but thats not the point of the 2950 Pro- the 2950 Pro is meant to be affordable, high performance yet efficient part. Also if the board is PCIe 2.0 Capable, that shouldnt really stop it from running on the current PCIe standard

You mean, the successor of the X1950PRO. It seems so... Single slot cooler, and striking similarities in terms of when it shall be released as well as the competitor; the 8800GT. A lower die fabrication process than usual for its generation, and this applies with its competitor as well; 8800GT having a 65nm fabrication.

This will be interesting...

These new cards look sweet, i have the XT and i love it, the 2900 maybe EOL but the driver support will still be there as these new card are basicly 2900's that cosume less power and give of less heat, this November ATI strike back, may the FPS be with them.:rockout:

I also wonder about those rumors. It sure sounds interesting, but I worry about the potential heat output of such a chip. Even at 55nm, it would probably need a beastly cooler. (not that I wouldn't get one anyway.)

As you know, original Radeon HD 2900XT had GPU clocked at 743MHz, with GDDR3 memory clocked at 826MHz. Now, even the RV670Pro has higher GPU and memory clock, so you can imagine the performance difference. We have to remind you that specs are not final, and the clocks of Gemini board (two RV670 GPUs on single PCB) and final clocks of XT/Pro are not set in stone. Same applies for overclocked version of RV670 with 2-slot cooling. GPU clock of 900MHz or 940MHz should not be unreachable, and when put under water, you should expect quite stellar results.

So does that mean there will be dual RV670? It came from the Inq, so who knows. But I do doubt that AMD have a dual core GPU as opposed to two dies on different areas of the pcb.

Wait, these cards are going to be 256bit with 16 ROPs, and about the same price as 2900PRO cards? If so, then I can forget 2900PRO. I mean, you loose some memory bandwidth for high res setups and/or AA/AF but gain some raw processing power at lower resolutions due to higher GPU clocks.

ATI is doing the same as the X19XX series...Releasing a product that will surpass the previous versions only by a very small performance margin. Remember X1900 and X1950 ? Same thing....And all that while NVIDIA will be releasing series 9800 of their GPUs.

That is the same Weer that was saying its impossible for the AMD X2's chips to go over 3ghz. Can someone just ban that troll!

Also this card does look very interesting, if priced right two of these in crossfire might be worth a look.

Does anyone know if they made any changes to the Core. More Tmu's to increase performance in area's where the current X2900XT fails, also Hardware AA?

This sounds gooood. I'm currently looking to buy a 32" flatscreen TV and a new graphics card with hdmi output would go nicely with it in the future =) Timing is quite good, they'll propably drop in prices before x-mas sales (and then mayby up or out of stock). Either way even the slower one should beat my x1900xt easily and with less heat & wattage(?).
