Foxconn Prepares 790FX Motherboard With SB700 Southbridge

With the Phenom CPUs and AMD 7-series chipsets ready to go, it's motherboard manufacturers' turn to roll their new products. FOXCONN has a 790FX/SB700 powered board practically ready although it will not hit retail stores until early Q1 2008. Nicknamed A79A-S, the 790FX motherboard features HyperTransport 3.0, quad-core Phenom support, DDR2-1066 support, four PCI-Express 2.0 x16 slots, two Gigabit Ethernet ports and SB700 with support for up to 12x USB 2.0 ports.

the PCI-e x16 slots seem too close to be able to utilize all of them if one was to use dual-slot cards.

yep, another dumbass design like the DQ6 that will only support single slot cooling

MSI's 790FX is still the only one that I've seen done right that'll support all 4 with dual slot coolers

I hear in Jan of '08 that the msi will also be equipped with the sb700. Any who, what so special about sb700 other than more sata ports and stuff?

Nice board, but I honestly dont think many will be doing the spider platform. 4 GPUs is just over kill and I doubt youll get much of an advantage.

Assuming those red slots are the 16x ones, then this (and gigabytes) are good layouts for dual card setups (i find the idea of me buying 2 graphics cards unlikely, let alone 4)

6 SATA and 12 USB, up from 4 SATA and 10 USB.

I believe the interconnect will stay as an x4 link, but will move to PCIe 2.0 standard.

The SB600 isn't the best of performers, so hopefully the SB700 will have better PCI, SATA, and USB performance.

Foxconn needs to ramp the boards performance up and provide a extremely solid overclocker
