Arctic Cooling Launches Alpine 7 Pro and Alpine 7 GT

Swiss cooling solution provider Arctic Cooling has launched a new series of value Intel CPU coolers - the Alpine 7 Pro and Alpine 7 GT. Due to their highly efficient thermal design and PWM function, with which the BIOS controls the fan speed of the Alpines, both coolers perform significantly quieter than the standard boxed cooler. Moreover, the 92mm fan of the Alpine 7 series features a patented vibration absorption, which gives the coolers the bestnoise/performance ratio in its price class. The Alpine 7 series feature Intel's push pin mounting for instant and easy installation. As with other Arctic Cooling products, the Alpine 7 Pro and Alpine 7 GT have a very long service life and are covered by a 6 year limited warranty. Alpine 7 Pro and Alpine 7 GT will be available by the end of Dec 2007. The MSRP of the Alpine 7 Pro is USD 15.95/Euro 10,95 (excl VAT). The MSRP of the Alpine 7 GT is USD 12.45/Euro 8,45(excl VAT).

the Alpine 7 GT performs worse than the Boxed Cooler, it is just marginally quieter though, and it is only rated up to 70w, which drastically limits what processors you can use it on.

The Alpine 7 Pro doesn't do much better. It performs only marginally better than the boxed cooler, and is only marginally quieter. IMO, it would only really be worth looking at if you got an OEM processor and need a cheap HSF to put on it that is equivelant to stock cooling. Of course it only handles 90w, so quad-core cooling is out of the question, the stock Intel cooler is rated higher than that.

yes not for overclocking.. the rubber mountings on the fan seem to work thow noise wise.. not a great deal of point unless u have a space problem or just need something cheap to go on an oem chip..

2nd that! Those clips really piss me off. They're horrible to work so I think AC are trying to cut corners 'ere. Silly buggers, should be innovating not being lazy & going backwards.

I don't see what the problem with the stock style mounting system. I had problems with it the first time I had to do it, but after that I don't have a problem with it. I actually prefer them over some of the others that require taking the motherboard out to put a cooler on, which is essentially every other mounting system.

+3, ac7's are notorious for bad mounting mechanisms, they can actually fall off and stab your video card, etc.

I can't stand the mounting hardware either, but would recommend an AF7 (performance wise) to anyone. It might cost a litte more than these, but they are amazing little HSF's; lots of people here have used them to achieve significant OC's on just air. Haven't heard anyone who hated theirs for the way it cooled.... but frustrating to install for sure.
