ATI to release a new X800: the X800 GTO

Yes, you read right, ATI is making this whole X800 lineup very confusing for us. The X800 GTO is suppose to have 12 pipelines, and run at 400Mhz. These specs should place it between the X800GT and the X800XL. To top that off, the card will be available in 2 flavors: with 128MB DDR1 running at 350Mhz, or 256MB GDDR3 running at 490Mhz, both using 256bit. That would make the X800 lineup look something like this: X800 Pro, X800 SE, X800, X800 GT, X800 GTO, X800 XL, X800 XT und X800 XT PE. Please note these are not listed in any particular order.

Read up on the confusion at Hardwaredeluxx (de).

The GT and GTO are both OEM parts so it doesnt matter.

Nvidia makes strangely named OEM parts, too.
6800 GTO (dell)

And anyone remember the 9700TX? hehe.

There is also a X800VE card made by powercolor that only has 4 pipes

*G* well one has to ask, when it still counts as a X800 part *LOL*...with 4 pipes...I miss the times were they had 3 cards...for example TI4200, 4400, 4600...done..no confusion, good price difference...and good performance difference...

ah yes the good old times...

cheers

well the Austrian Store (my former place of work btw) actually sells the Gt, retail...for 177€s, about the price of a 6600GT, but with twice the mem...not a bad move after all...if only you did not need a expensive crossfire edition to run dual graphics...NVIDIA should have brought out a 6600 Ultra..*G* 8 pipes, maybe 1200mhz Mem, and 50Mhz increase of the core...hey even 256MB mem would have been great *G*...yes I will dream on...

Leadtek's 6600GT extreme runs at 550/1120 (1.6ns ddr3) and still have overclocking headroom.
