Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 Beta 1 Coming Soon

A number of Microsoft enthusiasts this week received invitations to a "limited technical beta program" for Internet Explorer (IE) 8 Beta 1. According to the invitation, Microsoft is planning to make IE 8 Beta 1 available to the general public, as well. But before that happens, an invitation-only tet program will be conducted. The invitation describes IE 8 Beta 1 being focused on developers. Microsoft officials have said they plan to show off IE 8 at Microsoft's Mix '08 conference in early March in Las Vegas. Officials also have said they are planning to add a developer-selectable "super-standards" mode to IE 8 that would enable the browser to qualify as more standards-compliant. Microsoft still has not offered a final-delivery target date for IE 8. Microsoft released IE 7 in 2006. Microsoft officials have said they are shooting to deliver more frequent, regular builds of IE. The full text of the note Microsoft sent to IE 8 beta invitees can be see here.

IE 7 was pretty decent with a variety of excellent and very practical features. One would hope that micro$oft will keep up the good work. If not then firefox is pretty good too.

I tried IE7, including all the interface hacks to put the address bar and the menu bar in the RIGHT PLACES. But still, i prefer IE6 and have gone back to IE6. Tabs dont do it for me... since it is just as easy to SHIFT+Click link and open up a second copy of IE on the taskbar. Switching from one to the other using ALT+TAB or clicking on the taskbar. No need for tabs.

Good, except for you know, the consistent vulnerabilities to infection and exploitation. Not to mention no regards for web standards what-so-ever. But other than that, yeah, it's good :banghead:

Yeah, I was glad to hear that IE7 would support the standards... but then I did some web design with it and it still had all the same bugs IE6 had with CSS. And what the heck is this "super standards" mode? You're either standards compliant or not, lol, shouldn't have to switch it on. Hopefully that mode works though.

Holy $hhh.... This brings to mind the constant upgrades to IE in the 90's when they were killing off Netscape. 10 to 1 it'll be Vista only... =(

Nah, they already shot themselves in the PR foot with DX10(.1) as Vista only that alot of people don't see the need for (yet at least). They wouldn't do the same with IE8, as that's even a less incentive to go to Vista than DX10. Agree with Spud though, they'll probably rip something off from someone.

Why do fanboys talk shit about MS because they think IE sucks - then when MS wants to upgrade their products, they talk more shit? Oh yea... they're fanboys.

I have tried IE 7 and IE 6, but I like more 7 - it keeps up with the other browsers like Mozilla etc.. In my opinion IE 6 is also good despite it´s security gaps, but I´m using MyIE2 which is also good-simple, have tabs, and it´s pretty quick, what more do you want ?

:shadedshu No, because they have consistently shown over the years that they're incapable of following basic, established W3C standards and instead insist to make the Web proprietary. If you're a web developer you'd understand our beef with M$. They're trying to improve, but unfortunately they've f*cked up a lot of stuff so it'll take time before things get better.

I like 7 out of all the internet explorers so far, but its still not as good as firefox in my opinion. However, its widely excepted everywhere whereas Firefox cant play certain video feeds, like from WWE and such.
