Alienware started selling its fastest and meanest gaming notebook, the Area-51 m17x. It comes with some serious power and let's hope it won't overheat as the little brother m15x. The Area-51 m17x comes with a 17" display supporting 1080p (1920x1200 resolution), variety of NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTX, 8700M GT or 8600M GT dedicated graphics cards operating in SLI mode, up to 4GB of DDR2 memory, and up to 1000GB of hard drive capacity using two 500GB HDDs. The laptop comes with a 45nm Intel Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Extreme processor and can also be offered with a DVD burner or Blu-ray optical drive, a 64GB solid state drive and 1GB Intel Turbo Memory. In Area-51 m17x you'll also find two speakers with subwoofer and a built-in 2-megapixel webcam. The m17x runs Windows Vista OS and starts at $2,199. this is what il probably be wanting to get :p
its 3k (1.5 gbp)
so its not that bad.
i just have to keep it safe, i lose all my stuff :P
where not very bright are we hehe :p
there are different models of the G2s (the G2sK being one of them)
they are both solid laptops - my cousin has the G1s & its amazing.
The G2s is a 17" as apposed to the 15"4 G1s so is more pricier but id say its worth the money.
alternatively if you are out for a 17" gaming laptop the cheapest DELL XPS 1730 with the single 8*00M GT is more then enough.
@trip: the Xtreme 770 is sweet...and in my price range :p i think :p
They are identical to the rock brand laptops (ie the chassis and most of the internals are the same) however you don't pay brand markup (ie my laptop was a good £250 cheaper than the equivilant rock laptop which at the time had a free upgrade option on the screen (you normally have to pay extra for the 1920x1200 screen on the rocks))
Additionally my model doesn't have the stupid X symbol on the lid or the trackpad which imo looks daft on the rock.
EDIT: I should say that in total my laptop came in at just over £1300 which at the time I bought it was the cheapest laptop available (in the uk) with the 8800mGTX.
Given that my processor only hums along at 2.1ghz I think its a pretty good score.
AND when the battery is able to support 168 hours of nonstop hardcore gaming or encoding etc etc.
If you dont agree with me, then your probably satisfied with what you have! HEH!
Let me know if you have any questions about the laptop and I will try to answer them as best as possible.
Havnt tried it with mine but would definitly be interested with a beast like that.
I know reading various threads about the actual base design of the laptop (ie all the rocks , novatech, sager etc laptops that use the chassis all share the same core components so overclocking via software (the only way you can) is the same for each) that it is overclockable. Novatech at least also allow the changing of the processor and other accessible components (under the main door on the back) to be changed under warrenty (new parts bought from novatech will also be covered under the warrenty). I am quite tempted simply to open up the laptop and add in a T9300 (as the individual price of this chip still makes my laptop cheaper than the same laptop with the T9300 as standard).
Although given the native resolution of the monitor you will more likely be graphically limited before you will become cpu limited (dependant on the game).
As for the gpu well I simply havn't tried overclocking it yet.
