Art Lebdev Presents Optimus Pultius 15-key

Art Lebedev has presented a new member of the Optimus family, Optimus Pultius. This gadget like its older full-featured cousin the Optimus Maximus, uses 15 OLED embedded keys that make them fully-programmable. The Optimus Maximus did go on sale with a price tag as much as US $1900. The Pultius can be used with the Maximus for expansion of programmable keys or a side-kick to your existing keyboard. This product launches sometime end of 2008 thru early 2009.

It's very neat what you can do with it, but definitely not worth the price to the average joe or really anyone for that matter.

In all honesty, are the "economical OLEDs" really that expensive to manufacture? I'd think the fact that its a unique product gives it an excuse to be so expensive.

OLED displays can be made using a modified Inkjet printer; $1900 =/= Printer + Special Ink + Manufacture of keybaord parts.
It is a complete and utter rip-off, IMO.

it's such a good thing that Art Lebedev thinks we need a product that doesn't last near as long as similar devices and comes in 10's of times more expensive , and that they KNOW we'll give a paycheck or two for it. LOL someone smack them. looks neat though

erm - why such a high price tag? surely making it cheaper would get more and more people interested.

Its probably because it is "artistic" and thus costs more like a la carte, less costs more.

These things are so sweet...Can't wait use them with my skull-trail, my 2000watt psu and my gold plated jewel incrusted case..... Yea the tech is cool, but not $2000 worth of cool:slap:...Definitely for the ultra-rich schmuck who'll buy anything just because it's expensive...:nutkick:...And I thought I was being extravagant when I added the Enermax "Ceasar" to my Newegg wishlist...:D

We bought a 500$ 93 Civic DX this year. About 900 After registration fees. 150k on it, and it gets 45MPG. TAKE THAT PRIUS!

So what I can still buy another 1000 $ in keyboards now right? (none of them staitek after my experience with the shitty ass eclipse II)

The concept of these devices is very cool, but until the keyboard comes down to about the $200 range it's not going to sell in the mass market sector at all.

I am not sure why it is priced so high. Perhaps it is more expensive to make than people are assuming. Perhaps they are trying to recoup R&D costs. Who knows. But $1900 is way over the top.

If the keys are good I could see some use in this. It would make a very good Midi controller for beat programming.

OFF topic: Does yours have messed up keyboard too?

I sent back 2 keyboards already (this is my third) that I will send back. Certain keys stop registering unless pressed all the way down. I don't type heavy. I asked them to swap it out for the new cyborg, I've already paid for this keyboard twice through return shipping costs.
