ATI Catalyst 8.8 Released, Features and Fixes in Store

AMD released the ATI Catalyst version 8.8 drivers. This driver brings in two new features among a host of bug-fixes specific to games, performance increments as such aren't indicated.

The driver suite can be downloaded here.

The two new features include new Avivo video features such as Dynamic Gamma/Contrast correction and improved video presets for ATI accelerators, Radeon HD 3000 series and upward. Another feature addition is that of the Hybrid Graphics feature being available to users of Windows XP. This technology allows pairing of the integrated graphics processor (IGP) of the AMD 780G and 780D chipsets with a Radeon HD 2400 or Radeon HD 3400 series accelerator. For a comprehensive list of fixes, please read the Release Notes.

I've only seen one person talk about performance and that was just to test 8.8. Is 8.8 supposed to give any performance enhancements to the 3850? I read the release notes and it doesn't look like that would have me any...

@lemonadesoda, have you tried uninstalling Microsoft Visual C++? (located in add/remove programs, or programs and features in Vista) I've found some versions of it are really interfering with catalyst installs, and it happened to me bad for the 8.7's.

Try using a dual-link DVI cable.

That's the cable with all the pins? I don't have one of those. Are you sure this could fix this issue?

I also had the problem on my 3870, but a bios flash on the card, helped fixing it! But back then, it wouldent display anything, even when the drivers werent installed..

There was some kind of dvi problem in the first bios revision that got out - it got fixed by updating it to a new one. But that dosent seem to do the trick on the 4870

I downloaded the full package, all installed easy as pie. Looks like some people are using what looks like some kind of online installer? Your asking for trouble with those things.

If anyone's having problems and they are on Vista, try running the setup program as an administrator (right click on the file and click "Run as administrator")

Don't know if this will work but it's worth a try.

I downloaded and installed the cat 8.8 for vista 64 system without any problems... i only use Crap cleaner and the most recent cat to remove the driver... i just run the program as if i was installing the driver and when the option comes up i select remove all Ati software...after that i hit no for a restart and go into c drive..ATI folder and remove everything...this is the way i've always done it and never had any problems of any sort.... also the 8.8 cat has bumped my Pcmark06 score about 150 points

lemonadesodaUsual BUGGY ATI/AMD installer as usual

CANCEL doesnt do anything. Stuck. Application FAIL.
Dude i suggest you Read the Release Notes before installing, because the AGP cards may need the Hotfix Drivers still, Cat 8.7 have hotfix, i believe the Hotfix have what is needed for DX to communicate and also the GART.

they Say for Cards under the HD 2 and HD 3 line should use Cat 8.2 or higher, well Cat 8.5 Hotfix work well for what i have.

here is the link support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894, if you want 8.8 AGP your gonna wait.

after using Driver Cleaner from DH and also Guru3D cleaner, go into the Registry and look for ATI related stuff, that is the way to remove all ATI or Nvidia Related stuff for Graphics.

well there is proof the 8.8s are buggy, now for My card, i couldnt find a hotfix for 8.7s (2K and 3K cards only) but the 8.5s are solid (They recommend 8.2s or higher but id recommend Hotfix version, i went from 7.7 to 8.1 then 8.5)

OMG!! Woo hoo Solution to DVI blank screen

I just found out the problem with the DVI :]. There is nothing wrong with any of the drivers at all. Its the DVI cable after all xD. Just replace it with a new one, which i hope would change everything cause before i was unable to run 8.9 drivers at all or even 8.8 and now woo hooo i see the screen. on VGA though =P. Hopefully i'll get a new DVI cable soon if i can find one at store. Hope this helps you all. ;)

its not worth upgrading every month, its worth it after a few months have went by, probably the next time i do a driver update is i guess around december.
