Xigmatek Unveils First Midgard Medium Tower PC Chassis

Cooling expert and power supply maker Xigmatek today extends its range of interests and is now officially producing computer cases too. First Xigmatek case to enter retail production is the 53 x 502 x 563 mm measuring Midgard mid tower enclosure. The steel case is all coated in black, both from the inside and the outside, and targets gamers on the low budget. Up to five 5.25-inch optical devices can be installed in the case, as well as up to five 3.5-inch hard drives, the hard drive cage is also rotated 90-degrees to save space. No instruments are needed when installing components inside the case. For maximum cooling, two 120 mm Xigmatek white LED fans come with the case, one in the front and one at the back, but there are holes for up to five more 120 mm or 140 mm fans (two on the side panel, one at the bottom of the case, and two on top). Other neat features include water cooling holes, cable management system, and a big gap in the motherboard try, for easy processor cooling manipulation. The Xigmatek Midgard is supposed to ship on June 12, 2009 for the price equivalent of 60 Euros.

Looks very similar to the cm590/690. Design is the same as well as most of the interiors. But you do get two xigmatek white led fans with this, which is way better than the POS fans you get on CM 590/690.

Looks like somebody got a CM690 and wasn't happy with the ports on top along with the fans...

One improvement though...look at the right side of the case. You get latches on that side too! Not on the CM690!

And I thought everything is so cheap there... at least I experienced that whenever I was there, but I have not been to a pc shop there:p

the right side panel ventilation for the hard drive rack is similar to the Thermaltake V9 Black Edition the motherboard tray looks identical to the Cooler Master 690 but with a motherboard access hole and a extra hole for cable management, the tooless expansion slots are identical to the Cooler Master 690 yet the tooless 5.25" look nothing like it. I would say Cooler Master definitely had a hand in this maybe they designed it for them but I wouldn't say it's a rebranded 690.

This is definitely a copy CM 690. My guess is that Sigma Windstorm, and Xigmatek got together and said "lets buy CM 690 from the same factory as CM". You know what, apart from the interior CPU retention hole, black paint, and some plastic retention mechanisms for the HDD and door, its exactly a CM 690. The tools that make the tiny plastic parts are cheap, the tools that press the steel are expensive so that is why the structure is identical to the 690. I guess you can buy a whole lot of chassis if you have enough money.

Seriously if I were CM I wouldn't be worried, CM 690 has been around for a long time and CM's 2009 chassis: HAF 922, CM Storm Sniper, CM Storm Scout, have yet to be beat on features and performance. Its one thing to emulate and copy, and its another thing to innovate altogether.

Xigmatek are definately wise to choose CM as their OEM, same goes for other cooler manufacturers who choose Xigmatek for their OEM.

Maybe one day CM will get Xigmatek to manufacture coolers whilst Xigmatek gets CM to manufacture their cases

Oddly enough there is no top fan though, but looking at the fairly cheap pricetag its not really an issue (black paintjob is nice too).

1. No

2. And yet it looks way better

3. Nu-uh:p

Its a metter of personal taste, and I find this case much more appealing than the 690.

it is not a cooler master 690 re-branded either cooler master designed it for xigmatek or it is a coincidence for example the abs black pearl looks like a lian li v2000b yet has nothing to do with lian li turns out in japan a majority of aluminum cases look similar to lian li.

Xigmatek has a front filter, different feet, different tooless 5.25", no top fan, motherboard access hole, extra hole for cable management, honey comb grill on right side panel for hard drives and different hard drive rack.

It does look similar to a 690, but this one is a better design.

Pretty nice looking case, and for €60 it gives the Antec 300 a run for its money. If I was looking for a cheap case I'd consider this, probably get it over the Antec 300 too.

If i wanted another fan on the front for example, is there a fan bay i could attach to the front where the mesh is?

edit: (homepage link removed, already posted on first page)

Looking tempting for next case.
HDD tray with anti-vibration rubber and suitable for 2.5" and 3.5" HDD.
Removable intake airflow dust filter for PSU.

edit2: Some serious value in this case:
Fan Speed Control: Three fan speeds are adjustable synchronously by one
knob on back bracket.

That would be great for NB fan/MB backside fan/something else.

should work for these covers:
