Xigmatek Unveils First Midgard Medium Tower PC Chassis

Cooling expert and power supply maker Xigmatek today extends its range of interests and is now officially producing computer cases too. First Xigmatek case to enter retail production is the 53 x 502 x 563 mm measuring Midgard mid tower enclosure. The steel case is all coated in black, both from the inside and the outside, and targets gamers on the low budget. Up to five 5.25-inch optical devices can be installed in the case, as well as up to five 3.5-inch hard drives, the hard drive cage is also rotated 90-degrees to save space. No instruments are needed when installing components inside the case. For maximum cooling, two 120 mm Xigmatek white LED fans come with the case, one in the front and one at the back, but there are holes for up to five more 120 mm or 140 mm fans (two on the side panel, one at the bottom of the case, and two on top). Other neat features include water cooling holes, cable management system, and a big gap in the motherboard try, for easy processor cooling manipulation. The Xigmatek Midgard is supposed to ship on June 12, 2009 for the price equivalent of 60 Euros.

There are three chassis that use the same body as the CM 690. Remember the CM 690 body is 3 years old, so whatever factory that CM paid to make this chassis has been making it for a long time, while later vendors like xigmatek and sigma can order the same chassis but make more modern features as an update.

This being said, these features do not make the chassis a NEW chassis since they are all the same except for patented tool free items or small changes.:toast:

Click the links to see for yourself what is copied and what is not. The fact seems obvious they come from the same chassis factory, but it is not certain if Cooler Master manufacturers these chassis for them.

Why would CM want to create their own competitor to the CM 690 with better specifications:banghead:?

This is one midtower I can definitely see myself getting. I love Xigmateks products and wouldnt mind springing 60 euros (80 bucks US?) for this. Looks very well, all black, tool less design, and filters.

Agreed, although not fan of the tool less design. Fine for ODD and HDD, but add on card thingies would have to go. They don't work with dual slot card, but that's what screws are for. Not really a downside, as you can use both ways and if it really sells for that price I'm sold.

Didn't like CM690 missing fan filter on bottom, USB ports on top, nor the price it sold here.

I wish tool-less designs would go away. I guess they're okay when someone doesn't change hardware much or use many accessories, but I got so tired of my P182 5.25 bays. It takes longer to take out a drive, unscrew the mounting clips, and screw them back on another drive than it would without them. Also, trying to mount cooling fans or anything else besides optical drives was a huge pain in the ass and sometimes required modding.

hoojIf i wanted another fan on the front for example, is there a fan bay i could attach to the front where the mesh is?
I made one for my CM690 so since this is basically a 690 chassis you should have no problem making one that will accommodate a 120/140mm fan behind the mesh.

what you do is get 4 cable ties (come with the case) take the 5.25" tooless clips off and thread the cable ties through the holes to secure nice thing about cable ties is you can change the angle of the fan or you can be clever like me and take the dust filter from the bottom fan and mount a 120mm on it and stick it in the front 5.25" bay or can just buy a Cooler Master 4:3 module and mount it in the front 5.25" bay for a makeshift fan duct.
