PCIe x16
The Intel Xeon Phi 7120X is a server/workstation processor with 61 cores, launched in June 2013. It is part of the Xeon Phi lineup, using the Knights Corner architecture with PCIe x16. Intel Hyper-Threading technology is available and effectly doubles the core-count of the P-Cores, to a total of 244 threads. Xeon Phi 7120X has 512 KB of L2 cache per core and operates at 1238 MHz by default, but can boost up to 1333 MHz, depending on the workload. Intel is making the Xeon Phi 7120X on a 22 nm production node using 5,000 million transistors. The multiplier is locked on Xeon Phi 7120X, which limits its overclocking potential.
With a TDP of 300 W, the Xeon Phi 7120X is extremely power hungry, which means you need top-notch cooling. Intel's processor supports DDR3 and DDR4 memory. ECC memory is supported, too, which is an important capability for mission-critical systems, to avoid data corruption. This processor lacks integrated graphics, you might need a graphics card.
Hardware virtualization is available on the Xeon Phi 7120X, which greatly improves virtual machine performance. Additionally, IOMMU virtualization (PCI passthrough) is supported, so that guest virtual machines may directly use host hardware. Programs using Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) can run on this processor, boosting performance for calculation-heavy applications. Besides AVX, Intel is including the newer AVX2 standard, too, but not AVX-512.
