The Intel Core i9-8950HK was a mobile processor with 6 cores, launched in April 2018. It is part of the Core i9 lineup, using the Coffee Lake-H architecture with BGA 1440. Thanks to Intel Hyper-Threading the core-count is effectively doubled, to 12 threads. Core i9-8950HK has 12 MB of L3 cache and operates at 2.9 GHz by default, but can boost up to 4.7 GHz, depending on the workload. Intel is building the Core i9-8950HK on a 14 nm production process, the transistor count is unknown. You may freely adjust the unlocked multiplier on Core i9-8950HK, which simplifies overclocking greatly, as you can easily dial in any overclocking frequency. With a TDP of 95 W, the Core i9-8950HK consumes a good deal of power, so decent cooling is needed. Intel's processor supports DDR4 memory. This processor features the UHD 630 integrated graphics solution. Hardware virtualization is available on the Core i9-8950HK, which greatly improves virtual machine performance. Additionally, IOMMU virtualization (PCI passthrough) is supported, so that guest virtual machines may directly use host hardware. Programs using Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) will run on this processor, boosting performance for calculation-heavy applications. Besides AVX, Intel is including the newer AVX2 standard, too, but not AVX-512.
This processor comes with an unlocked BCLK multiplier, allowing users to set the multiplier value higher than shipped value, to facilitate better overclocking.
