*GTX 260/280 Unofficial TPU! Thread*

thanks tatty, i hardly use the whql now i just had to while the tweakforce site was down
i have got the latest set and they seem to be good, i didnt notice a drop in frames but i did notice a slight decrease in AA in mass effect but the set before actually made IQ better for mass effect

idk its only one game and everything else seems to be better and stable

Tatty - Already stepping into x58/i7 ehhh? I wonder if you will be able to out bench your Q9650.

I love EVGA and they're step-up program... I submitted a step-up request to go from this GTX 260 Core 216 to the GTX 275. Got my email and EVGA told me that it will cost me only $8.36.... f!@#$kn nice! Now all I have to do is find me someone to let me borrow a PCI-E card untill I get the 275!

Yeah, it cost me nothing getting a 280 when they first came out last year... Sh1t bro. there's $50 cards at newegg that probably could hold ya when your able to send it in.

Nice step-up man! :toast:

heh, thanks! cant beat going to a better card for under $9!:rockout::toast:

hanice trade i wanna do that! i just got my gtx260 but my builds not done yet :( so i threw it in my old gateway gt2250 somethin, im gonna do some 3d mark :)

Heh, I'd step up/down my GTX 280 with that price for one :D Although I haven't even tried what this baby got in her after the new cooler. Waiting for the bench boom to hit or Warhead 2nd time through. Anything else runs fine stock, although still waiting to get FarCry 2 that I won before end of last year, fast those Ubisoft boys are :)

heres my beast lol, CPU is a major bottleneck in this case, before OC

Don't know how many of you out there have tried the new 185.65 beta's...I found them near unusable. I couldn't even watch a movie full screen w/o severe flickering, I did try FC2, performance seemed no different. I have decided to go with the 182.50 whql's for now, they so far seem stable...seems I have lost some ppd on my GPU F@H...by approx 600ppd. I have yet to try a game, but just finished a movie w/o any issues. The card's clocks are dropping properly, and so far the new whql's are quite stable.

Nice clocks lucas. :toast:

yea thanks! im trying the voltage mod right now with nibitor then ill be able to really push this. Once i get my new x48 dfi with my ddr3 and e8500 in it should pwn

Still 3d clocks for me, how are you doing that? You have Vista and 2 displays connected? Was really hoping these 182.50s were magical, wouldn't care if I lost 20% performance as long as I'd get 2d clocks :/

Dunno, I got a really good deal, after selling my Q9650 and Anus I only had to put £75 so less than $100, you know me I couldnt resist.

The math I have done previously would suggest I need to hit 4gig on the 920 to better the Q9650 @ 4.5gig...... we will see, I dont mind too much if I dont, I wont be able to bench for 3 months anyways as I will be away on an overseas project with my work come May. I have not even built the new system yet!

Ship it to me I will pre-build it while you are out. :)

Sh1t Zen... From the looks of Tatty's post... He could throw it in as his "carry on" and play around!

Where at overseas Tatty!? PM me it
:toast:

No need to PM.... I work as a Regional Manager for a National Young people's charity, sadly for me they know I spent nearly 28 years in the Army so they have asked me to go to Namibia (Africa) to head up a project working with the UN to do some work with schools and childrens homes to develop learning programmes for 10 -16 year olds.

I have a friend at work, A chef also along side me, that came to America some 28 years ago from Africa.... He has one of the strongest shoulders I've ever known.. One of the best guys I know. You'd never guess about where he's been from, and what he has seen.

Edit:
Tatty, I hope you have a great time. Stay safe, and I can't wait to hear of your stories there!

A few weeks to go yet.... well about 4 but looking forward to it. Thank you!

Just one display connected, mine is generally on 3d clocks all the time anyways due to folding, but I figured I'd test and see if it'd drop, and so far every time I've checked the clocks have dropped properly. The 182.46 beta's were similar there too. Why are 2d clocks so important for ya? You're not really saving THAT much power, in fact idle temps between 3d clocks and 2d clocks at the same fan speed is only about 2C difference. It's kind of nice to have, but I've gotten over not having anything but 3d clocks.

Oh but you forget about this beast. 2D voltage is 1.1250V and 3D idle is 1.1875V, with stock cooler difference was 10C+ :) With the new cooler probably about 5C difference, but with 2D clocks this card would consume less than my previous 9800GTX+.

Anyways, I payed for the card, I want it to work like it's meant to *pokes nvidia* :p

I already both GTX 260 OC =) cool!!!

Damn, yeah most likely my smaller difference is because I run a stock 1.06v for 3d/Extra and 1.05v for 2d. Not much voltage change, and the clocks being dropped from 666/1458 1200 to 300/400 100 doesn't seem to do too much...not nearly as much as I would've expected. Even on my 192sp 260 were the temps that different betweem 3d idle and 2d idle...and that was 1.12 for 3d/extra and 1.08 (iirc) for 2d.

Though idle amperage draw doesn't seem to drop much more between 2d and 3d idle, maybe 1 amp or so...I might have to monitor that a tad more. One thing I noticed even on drivers that didn't drop the clocks correctly, they would at first boot before a 3d app was loaded, which means it could be monitored in GPU-z and Precision, as soon as a game, bench, anything that needed 3d/extra clocks, then it would stay pegged out on full oc clocks from that point till restart.

You could always make a profile that uses 2d clocks in precision, though we both know that won't get you quite where you want to be...if they can just add a 5th slider for the damn voltage in precision itself so each profile stores gpu clocks / shaders / memory / fan / gpu vddc we'd be set!

:toast:

EDIT: Anyone have any luck finding the AC Accellero XTreme GTX280 cooler in the US yet? Any kind of ETA for arrival to the states?

Yep, that was the first thing I did, but it's pretty pointless as memory can't be set anywhere near that 100MHz. 455/979/830 is the lowest they go. Those 16 memory chips produce quite much heat and although it doesn't reflect that much on GPU temperature, you can feel it by touching the backplate.

My VDDC current goes from 14.5A to 7.3A if I disable 2nd display.

ps. hope you get the Accelero there soon!

That's where my VDDC sits at 2d idle is about 7.3A last I checked...interesting. Yeah I agree with memory chip heat too.

Can GTX 260 adjust fan % speed??
