But will the tv cut you back down? Since you are not sending the sound to a receiver but to a tv you might have issues going from tv to normal receiver because the limitations of Optical. Don't believe Optical has the bandwidth to support Multi Channel LPCM so it would probably downmix to 2-channel as it is not receiving a DD or DTS signal to pass through... I am using a Sony receiver with HDMi in, then to my TV.

Optical can handle whatever gets thrown at it, however i dont know if my TV supports HDMI->optical out like it does TV signal -> optical out.

Cant test it til my ATI HDMI adaptor arrives anyway.

Ok cool. Swore I saw somewhere there was a bandwidth issue with Multi-channel LPCM and Optical... Something like Optical couldn't handle 7.1 96KHz, which is why to get Dolby Digital TrueHD and DTS HD (HDDVD and Bluray) you have to run HDMI 1.3 to a Receiver that can decode it. You can not get these over Optical....

the control panel not start so I need another trail period or full version
any solution for this situation

the solution is "reading the god damned thread"

seriously. you have made zero effort to look into this, and i'm sick of people asking the same damned question over and over without reading the answer we gave the last 20 people to ask it.

You know that reading a 19 page, 460+ post thread is not really a constructive suggestion, especially paried with "god damned" thrown in.

I suggest Ket add the obvious (FAQ) to the original first post. Will save a lot of headaches.

Already done. People just aren't reading the thread, or even the first post for that matter.

The Crapative software does NOT work in Vista. You may try running it in compatibility mode, but if that doesn't work your out of luck

Install issues

If your having trouble installing the modded driver ensure that;

- Your onboard codec is a Realtek chip and that it is *HDA capable
- Be SURE the Realtek codec is set to work in *HDA in your BIOS
- Disable digital signing in Vista

* HDA = High Definition Audio

To try and stop the flood of PMs I seem to be getting about a serial for the crapative software, I do NOT have one, nor do I know of anybody that does.

I'm just suggesting it as I went back and looked at your original post and actually looked for the part about Vista - I didn't find it till you just pointed it out.

Dear Ketxxx,

I'm not sure if I notice any difference between your 2.18 and the original realtek 2.21 drivers. I can't hear a difference, and I don't see any extra features or options in control panel.

Can you please tell me what I should be looking for? Are there any addition features or improvements over stock? I have good speakers Logitech Z-5500 but again, I'm not sure if I can hear any difference. The speakers are connected through the 3 wire direct analog connection (96/24bit). Vista64. ALC 888S.

Thanks for the drivers, it is an interesting development nonetheless.

I would love to see the ability to do Dolby digital live and/or DTS connect with my realtek hardware!

DDL and DTS are tricky, I have limited time to look into things, it may or may not be possible to enable those features on all Realtek HDA codecs. ATM these drivers just improve audio quality, all listening experiences are very subjective, heres a some screenshots you may find useful.

Its to do with the implementation of the CODEC. Different motherboard makers use different techniques. You could try to "clean" things by placing a heatsink over the audio chip on your board, this will help isolate it from electronic crosstalk.

hey Ketxxx,

I just wanted to make sure I was doing things right. I installed everything as was explained. I found the Creative CP in my Start/Control Panel, but it wont turn on, error message says-
The Audio Device Supported By This Application Is Not Detected. The Application will Exit.
After uninstalling all audio device drivers and applications and than reboot, I started by changing the reg to sp2, loaded up 888111 and restarted, the kb888111 showed up in Add/remove, but did not show in 'System Devices'.

"It was in Add/Remove at one point", but I fudged up and had to start the process all over again! Upon the second try, after running kb888111xpsp2.exe and getting a message about a "successful install", I could not find "kb888111" in Add/Remove(remember, this is the second attempt at an install)After another reboot I installed the X-fi 2.18 modded driver(Realtek R2.18 XP X-Fi mod driver 32-64bit). It shows up in Add/Remove(Realtek HD/AD) and in Device Manager: 'sound, video and gaming controllers'(Realtek X-fi). So, with that done, I moved to extracting the 'AppSetup.exe' from X-fi 'SBXF_PCDRV_LB_2_18_0008.exe', than preformed the install.

After running/installing Appsetup.exe, I went to my control Panel to see if 'Creative Audio CP' is present, It is! However, when I try to run 'Creative Audio CP' it gives me the above statement quoted. I can play music and movies in vlc, which does sound better all around, but, with passing on the info I've submitted, have I done something wrong? I'm new at modding software, so please let me know! Should the 'Creative CP' load to an interface?

The nub,
Mark

I read from page 1 to 19, but like a stated, "I'm nub", so I'm unsure(lack of experience) if I've done it right. The reason why I chose to do this was for the horrible microphone issues with the Alc889a or the software that realtek issued for the chip. Since the mod, audio sounds much better, but I've not got to test the mic yet.
Try...Annex X-Fi Software...link on front page
I didn't see a link, but I'll go back and check again. Will this 'Annex software' give the ability to XP32 to use the 'Creative Audio CP'?

Thanks for the pointers,
Mark
