not knocking it. I love mine. I am currently playing ME2 and it does indeed look damn pretty. but it is un-arguable that a game made FOR pc and ported to xbox can look as good as it's pc counterpart. maybe for some machines, but not as a technical rule.

now to make the argument of price/performance... that i can understand a bit better. but even then I have to say you can build an amazing machine for around $1000USD , or an xbox (with hdmi, hdd) for $300 (new) I would argue you will get 3x as much (and more) out of that pc.

it just depends on how much is enough for you. for some people consoles do it. others need consoles and handhelds. and then pcs. and some need them all. it's subjective preference more than objective comparison i believe.

Yeah, I agree m8. For a cheap thrill so to speak, you cant go far wrong with a 360/PS3

Too bad this is another western type game that has a huge open world sandbox type and it's really gonna Suck because there is no First Person Option. One day RockStar will learn this lesson and then they will get paid from the rest of us gamers. Too bad they like to shoot themselves in the foot.

They should have taken the hint from the popularity of the GTA San Andreas and GTA 4 First person Mods.

I will either have or wait for a good 1st person mod for this or wait till the better game companies do a western right.

Ermmmmmmm, no. GTA is 3rd person game and thats how it should remain. 3rd person view is far better for titles that involve driving cars or in this case riding horses etc.

Ive been playing this game for a few days now and its outstanding, plus ALL of the review sites (and soon magazines) agree with me.

If you dont like 3rd person games, stick to Doom. Some of us can and will enjoy 1st person and 3rd person titles.

Its a shame your attitude is so bad, because your missing out on a great game.

That's a common opinion but I just can't share it. Like Mass Effect.. I have it.. but can't play it cus of the 3rd person. I have played them in the past but they lost their appeal for me. It was too annoying having to control a disembodied character. It made me feel detached from the character. Didn't make me feel like I was truly being the character or really being 'IN' the game.

I really loved the GTA games in 1st person.. even driving.. played very well for me. Its not that the game was 'meant' to be 3rd person.. I think some folks aren't used to it as much as others and cannot handle it. Myself, I hate driving a car I'm not in the drivers seat of but looking ahead from the trunk area.. its not realistic. Riding horses worked great in 1st person in Oblivion.

Thats just flawed logic. A FPS is meant to be in a 1st person perspective. So a third person shooter is meant to be in a 3rd person perspective. This is why we have genres. Would you expect an RTS title to have a 1st person perspective? No, you wouldnt, so why expect a 3rd person to have it?

You clearly have a problem playing 3rd person titles so you do correct in avoiding them. But thsi doesnt mean that 3rd person titles are rubbish. I suppose titles like Splinter Cell should be 1st person too?

says the xbox 360 version is 720p with 2x AA and the PS3 is 640p
thats the 10 MB of eDRAM that handles the AA ect

i was basing it off the back of the boxes. 360 lists 720p, 1080i, and 1080p - ps3 only lists 720p.

I don't trust console games on any of their res ratings, because some of them want to could scaling in, so they make it at 720p and say its 1080p, and garbage like that. Either way, I never really noticed a difference between my 720 and 1080 games.

I would expect a 3rd person shooter to be played in 1st person - because It Can. There is really very little difference in a game that's 1st or 3rd person.. accept for the viewpoint. I know.. I have played tons of 3rd person games in 1st person. They all work great. There is no special mechanics to 3rd person that will make the game not playable in 1st person. ( as long as the engine is capable)

RTS's are different animals altogether because the engine cannot do a 1st or a 3rd person perspective.

I do own 4 splinter cell games and love them because over the shoulder as they have is close enough to 1st person for me.. still yes, if I had an option to switch to true first person, I would play them in 1st person and I think they would rock.

This whole notion that 3rd person games must remain 3rd person because the game is designed that way, I have found to be untrue. There has never been a 3rd person game I played in 1st person that did not play great or that caused me to miss anything that only 3rd person could bring. That just cannot happen.. a 3d engine is a 3d engine. Think of the hybrid games that do this by default without using mods.. Oblivion, Gothic 3, DMOMM, Two Worlds - I own them all and they all work great in both views.

I didn't say 3rd person games were rubbish.. I said I didn't prefer them.

My beef with RDR is more about wanting a great sandbox western that's playable in 1st person. I have been waiting years for this type of game. I also want a great western 1st person RPG. Someone could have done this already but no one has. I think RockStar missed an opportunity.

I don't think they have. But I have played Max Payne 1 and 2, and GTA 3 and 4 in first person - all worked great. See.. they could be scooping up all that money. Like Oblivion did.

I have in a few, but rarely.

with this game I will happen to have it for ps3 and xbox... pre-order screwed up and i'll resell one after I play them both. I'll let you guys know if there is any difference. I should have it by week's end.

Not everyone has a hardon for FPS games, including me. I prefer 3rd person and always have for some reason.
