damn, so it is going to be one of those games you have to spend 20-30 hours a week if you want to be taken seriously in game...
I don't think so. If you want all the top end stuff you will need the credits, That will involve for the most part either some form of mining, ratting, or salvage operation. The game will cater for all levels of play. And for the most part it will be a combination of skill, team work, and ship that play the most part in what you achieve.
Because there is no skill/level system you will always be eligible for content. This means if your guild is raiding a space port then it doesn't matter if you fly a Aurora or a Bengal Carrier, Or if you have basic weapons or top tier weapons. It'll be the team effort that wins the day and more importantly you should still get a share of the loot equal to the kills you score. It's why I think been in a good guild is going to be very important in this game. Because without a tier/level or skill system the only other option you have to grade missions is number of players and personal flight skills.
I'd like to think the game will play like an end game WOW raid. You have trash that is solo-able, Group pulls that are going to need a little co-ordination, Then death stars that are going to need tactics, Organization, and a large number of players to beat. This should all be in the persistent open world. So you can fly in secure space without a problem, But the further you go out to the fringes the more the group takes precedence.
i would love it if i could just jump into a ship with somebody and go dogfighting...
High security space, running missions or ratting should give you this experience. If your end game goal is a massive ship this will be the slow route, But it should give you enough credits to get out of the aurora and into something will a little more poke so you can do these missions a little easier. Think about it like tier 1-3 eve missions that you can do in a cheap ship. The level 4's will need a bigger ship, better player skill, or a team. You should be able to grade these high security missions so they always give you one you can do in your ship. There will be a lot of players that never go into pirate space, And they have to cater to those people as well as the people that want to rat the deep space pirates, or do the harder content.
Personally I have my goals set on ship stealing/salvage. I plan to find a like minded idiot and run the cutlass or a team of cutlasses on team building exercises.... literally team building
Go in with 2 ships come out with 4
