If you don't have any more thermal paste and you have to buy some, I recommend ARCTIC COOLING MX-4. It has good thermal performance, easy to apply and clean up, and is not electrically conductive.

I'm also hoping it didn't cause a problem.
If it's the electrically conductive kind cleaning it would probrably be a mute point now unless you got really lucky.
As said a pea sized drop directly onto the middle of the CPU works, there's no telling how big of a mess you have after putting the entire tube on for a single application unless the tube itself is sized for that.
