[Rumor] RX480 AIB Card Leaked and Tested!

Lots of doubters are about to get face slapped soon.

I really hope so because it'll most likely be my new card.

A price tag under $300 for a 8GB OC'd version that's inches away from a 1070 in performance is a solid win in my book.

This won't just be good for people looking to purchase an RX480, but even for those looking to get a 1070. Nvidia might slash it's price a tad to make it more appealing for people.

Lots of doubters are about to get face slapped soon.

Doubters don't get face slapped. They get pleasantly surprised.

I am skeptical, I'll give you that but a few months back when Nvidia actually announced they were releasing first I speculated a few reasons. One of them was that they knew whatever AMD was working on was going to be really quite good so they pushed to release first to get initial sales and in this case it claims the performance crown. Had AMD released the RX 480 first and it is as good as rumours say, it would have taken a lot of fire out of the GTX 1080 reveal. That and they would not have been able to charge as much as they have.

I would also love to believe the thing over clocks like the hype train suggests because that bodes very well for Vega. Given how badly Fiji and now Pascal overclock (as in power restrictions) it would be good to see some room to play with.

So, if you want to see people being face slapped, it's more a sign of your own bias. Sure a few guys posting are a bit Nvidia centric and they will skulk away but the 'doubter' like me, well, we win. There is nothing better than thinking, this cards gonna be mediocre and then being surprised by how cool it actually is. That's why I am a techie - I love the good stuff. That's why I've not budged off Sandy E - Intel has gone balls out boring. I am actually waiting to see Zen and Skylake E now - 5 yrs of waiting.

So it's more rewarding for me, a skeptic, to see a piece of tech perform well. I have nothing invested in either company so I simply want to see great things happening. It's worse for fanboys (not saying you BTW) who hype things to the extreme and then get disappointed.

You can face slap people when it's released and it's great and someone mentions drivers. We'll all join in then for a slapathon.

I Am Reminded of this

AMD on left Nvidia on right

I would love to see AMD not be lying though there
teeth for once but they have no credibility, not after the bullshit they pulled in recent years
ill still buy a RX480 on launch day because I need a gpu and I don't much care where it falls in the benchmarks

What AMD said ? so i would know to ...

Rumors = amd didn't said that >.<.

Like the 1500mhz easy OC.

------------------------------------------

amd has made a bunch of claims about the card and given there track record nobody should listen to a word of it

Affordable card for 1080p and VR Gaming[6.3 Steam VR) with good performance per watt.

did i missed something else ? bcuz some people are thinking they would get Titan X for 200$ with 70w TDP..

It seems TPU has already updated the info for all RX series cards. Wizzard probably is playing with RX480 right now and laughing at us all.

5.8 GF gives an assurance that it wins against 390X and most possible 980 also, so, if that's not a success for AMD and customers with this price, I don't know what a succesful product will be anymore judging by its specs...

Over in CHH sales manager people are popping in to share their overclocking stories on the reference version now. Even with 6pin and reference blower 1.4GHz is easily achievable. Now AIB will definitely have 6+8 version coming out soon. Hopefully the 1.5GHz rumor is true.

pretty sure w1zzard has had samples for months even the man has connections

I see Nvidia prices falling all across the board lolz! I'm buy 2 just to support AMD and give gamers more options when buying GPU'S, OH and AMD won't do a paper launch they been coming a long time. How many new AMD cards are coming out soon? It's like winning the lottery almost!

pretty sure this thread is a trap at this stage
good thing I brought my rocket-shoes perfect for escaping pitfalls and spike pits
T- 8 days until the NDA is lifted

Where is that magical 379$ MSRP? Nowhere to be seen.
And for "massive markup for gougers", uh, is it how you regard nVidia/AIBs?
And what have we heard from AMD camp so far?
http://en.yibada.com/articles/13296...-card-factory-overclocked-1288mhz-8gb-amd.htm
249$ for OCed 8Gb version of RX 480. How faris that from announced 229-239$-ish for 8Gb? 10$ for mild OC? Yay.
Gotta love people that nit pick things. The gougers are the *(@#&#(@ that are tring to sell a 650$ card for 1200+$. Stop being an idiot.
As for MSRP of amd card yea likely amd ref card will be 200$ but i bet that will be with AMD's all time crappy cooler that can't keep the card under 90 to save its life without it rivaling my gas power leaf blower in noise. AIB cards will be 220-250$ for 4gb model and 250-300$ for 8gb card.

So Nvidia ref card is 379$ and keeps it really cool ?

If you want we talk about worst ones from both sides, do you remember GTX 480 ? 50~60 dba card ? that reached 100*c....

the pictures tell me that that heatsink is way undersized and will get really hot as soon as you exceed the TDP

Umm, no.

I think you're getting confused with the toaster that was the GTX 480. The GTX 580 was the storming resurrection of the fermi architecture. In some ways the GTX 580 started the Nvidia onslaught that took AMD by surprise.

Yep, wrong number =P sry and thank you.

I'm an overclocker Fan noise is for woman!
I make mine sound like a typone with Afterburner WHO THE FAWK Care's aslong as it overclockes well, Fan noise is for Tomshardware people.

I hope we can put some Corsair 80i GT to overclock the GPU even more !! but i'm not sure about the sizes !

with the GTX 1070 AIB custom skyrocketing and even more expensive than the SE to ~600+ USD, my eyes are getting averted and looking at the RX 480 now, unless the RX 480's price get pumped as well, then its the waiting game

That's the game I'm playing right now after building a new system minus the gpu.

the most important is that AMD shares rise up!

"The last screenshot is from Alza.sk, they had prices listed at 264 EUR for 4GB version and 302 EUR for 8GB model."

Not sure what taxes are like in Slovakia, but if that's the price for DE market as well, I'm rather disappointed. Not that much about that I have to pay a bit more, but that AMD would not use GIANT opportunity to re-gain large swaths of the market because someone is allowed to do silly 20€-ish margin increase.

When people are pissed off with nvidia doing ngreedia, show how you are different!

There are no facts in this thread. It's all rumours and FUD.
For starters, there are indeed facts in this thread, e.g.: "AMD announced RX 480 4Gb to start at 199$".

As far as rumors go, they should come from somewhere, besides poster's head (or arse).
When poster makes it up, it's a different kind of rumor.
And when it's clearly targeted, it's FUD.

This is not confirmed, they just gave link to wccf archive with rumor of 1,5k mhz overclock
Yeah, likely fake. Sapphire's official page has no reference to that FB account either.

the most important is that AMD shares rise up!
Insane that one could have trippled his savings within one year just with AMD stock.
And heck, back then, when nobody knew how good or bad Polaris would be (we still don't know what Zen will be TBH), even then it was not THAT big of a gamble, as in the worst cases someone would have bought the company.

PS
Intel:
Revenue: 50 billion $, market capitalization 150 billion $ (3 times revenue)
nVidia:
Revenue: 5 billion $, market capitalization 25 billion $ (5 times revenue)
AMD:
Revenue: 4 billion $, market capitalization 4.5-5 billion $ (1 - 1.1 times revenue)

I'm rather new to this, but either nVidia is overpriced or Intel should cost more.
Oh, that and huge growth potential for AMD if both Polaris & Zen deliver.

can we all just wait 8 days for the NDA to lift come on enough guesswork its time for SCIENCE
Thanks for your valuable contribution to this thread, but can you stop posting for 8 days, to let people who don't mind rumors... be?

More AMD news: Dual 480 @$500 beats 1080@$700
IMO that's only interesting if VR really benefits from dual GPU.
Other than that, it isn't really attractive comparison at all as, besides consuming more power/generating more heat you are likely to run into all sorts of problem in various games with dual GPU config.

Gotta love people that nit pick things. The gougers are the *(@#&#(@ that are tring to sell a 650$ card for 1200+$. Stop being an idiot.
Maybe it's time to pull your head from wherever it is and check the facts, instead of insulting opponents?
789€ is the price announced by nVidia and that's exactly the price I see in shops:
http://www.mindfactory.de/Hardware/Grafikkarten+(VGA)/GeForce+GTX+fuer+Gaming/GTX+1080.html

Just wondering, the picture shows the fins on the heatsink in a vertical alignment, but shouldn't they mount 90 degrees to that for air flow to have a clean path out the rear vents?
Not sure I get you. Fins create higher pressure inside the card, low pressure outside the card, near the fins, the only place where air can get out to even out the pressure is on the other side.
