IPC for working tasks@same clock speed!
Sandy Bridge to Ivy Bridge: Average ~5.8% Up
Ivy Bridge to Haswell: Average ~11.2% Up
Haswell to Broadwell: Average ~3.3% Up
Broadwell to Skylake (DDR3): Average ~2.4% Up
Broadwell to Skylake (DDR4): Average ~2.7% Up
=>Haswell to Skylake (DDR3): Average ~5.7% Up.

So from my old 2600k to the newest skylake we have +/- 20% of increased performances due to the architecture optimization. Just for your sake i remember that sandyB architecture came out in 2011, so it mean u get 20% of gain in almost 5/6 year regarding working application tasks.

It is what i was speaking about, not the fact AMD cpu sucks atm, we all know that since enough time to stop to remember it.
My fact was more on the architecture evolution from intel, that bother me, and that's why i still have a 6 years old cpu that perform like newest ingame, because if u look the performance gain ingame, they are even worst.

So my hope was not that we get cheaper cpu like u said, because if u want a cheap cpu and leave aside your fanboy enthusiast side, a 3 years old cpu is quite enough for all your applications.
My hope was to get again some new architecture that could boost the performances of actual cpu and spending 300 bucks for a cpu worth again something, not like now where i feel intel put some gloves digging far in my anus!

LOL those AMD Evolve titles? remember those?

Oh they happened to all run better on intel CPU's it's shocking i know
Irrelevant. AMD Evolve was only supposed to optimize certain games for AMD GPU's . CPU optimization was unchanged.

I think some of you are thinking too much.

Just use your PC and forget about benchmarkes and all that crap that's only for epeen.

I think the problem is the way you start these threads you dont really say much you just post the articles and expect others to start the discussion. Take a look at post 1 and see the only original content you started this thread with is the title.
Nope, I always say something. This time is an exception. You must be thinking of someone else. Look through my started threads in my profile if you don't believe me.

My old 2500k.

Saying this like that, comparing different mobo, ram, setup, is a nonsense.

More for u an Haswell is 1.08 time more perf than a 6 years old cpu, even worst!

wow!

Amd is coming up with a new architecture if we believe them, so no matter what everyone could say about amd vs intel, its already better than no new architecture at all!

You were trying to add up intel's generational IPC gains, i just put out that at 5ghz where a 2500k is completely maxed out, and most won't get that high, a 4690k will easily match it at 4.6.

If you can even get there. This pile of shit maxes at 4.4. It doesn't matter how V you pump into it. Haswell is garbage. The older haswell is stuck at 4.2 the same way (two 4560s). Even Ivy would do 4.5 easily without delidding.

If some games weren't shittily coded, I'd just go back to my 8350 lol. Cmon AMD, daddy needs a new platform all around.

For sure but when u compare the IPC on different cpu, u compare it at the same frequency, no matter if one could achieve higher clock or not.
And it is the main problem atm, since we are going down by scaling transistors, so less power consumption and less heat produced mean higher frequency's.
Mainly the gain u got is almost due to higher frequency's rather that really an implementation of the architecture.
U can see this on nvidia side too, if u compare the pascal generation and maxwell generation, at same clock speed u got barely no significant increase of performance.

My point was mentioning Haswell is quite a bit faster than Sandy and can get there much easier than a Sandy chip can hit 5.0ghz.

Have fun while you can b/c the next node should kill these OCs. Watch Intel's 10nm be delayed another year (for anything we care about).

Quite the opposite. A ton of AMD's desktop stuff is unlocked (unlike intel obviously), and if this is true, then they're binning chips that should OC better. Intel wants to you to buy 10 CPUs to find a nice clocker. Neither currently have unlocked models that will actually OC better.

Notice there is a part that specifically says "no OC". I like to overclock to make cheaper parts run faster and get great value from my machine. With Intel, you have to spend a ton of extra money to overclock by buying the k series CPU and z series motherboard. I don't care for that kind of overclocking. I like value overclocking. If AMD follows in Intel's footsteps with their new lineup, that makes them no better than Intel in my opinion.

I don't think that will be the case. According to the roadmap
There will be a cheap chipset that offers no OC'ing, probably for OEM's and super budget packages, and 2 other chipsets that offer overclocking. I believe all AM4 processors will be multi unlocked.

@CAPSLOCKSTUCK How bad does that 890fx/sb850 MoBo choke performance on that 83xx? Wouldn't it be safe to say that performance would increase on a 990fx or even a 970fx based system?
