I think the problem is the way you start these threads you dont really say much you just post the articles and expect others to start the discussion. Take a look at post 1 and see the only original content you started this thread with is the title.

It looks like they're sort of following Intel's platform model. That's not good.

Quite the opposite. A ton of AMD's desktop stuff is unlocked (unlike intel obviously), and if this is true, then they're binning chips that should OC better. Intel wants to you to buy 10 CPUs to find a nice clocker. Neither currently have unlocked models that will actually OC better.

Stop looking at just am3+. Fm2 based stuff needs an unlocked chip to actually oc and typically the chip is better.

Yea I know, just saying. Remember that is what this new platform is based around. From the slides released amd does not have an am3+ replacement/2011 competitor they have an fm2+ replacement and 115x competitor. It will be interesting to see if at some point they replace something like c32 or g34 for a single enthusiast socket like 2011. A single 16c/32t chip with quad channel memory would be a nice desktop if the performance promises actually ring true for once.

To be fair improving crap to slightly less crap while an improvement is still crap. Ala bulldozer to piledriver. Also if that was aimed at me I am probably one of the more amd biased people floating around. Just tired of their crap and wanted something that performed well enough. Even 24 4ghz amd cores can't outperform my 5820k at 4.7.

I will patiently wait for the release and I hope that it is an improvement that brings it into the haswell level of performance, but I worry it won't.

I will confidently go out on a whim and say it will flatten Haswell in multithread, it's IPC will be Haswell or just above, not Skylake territory.

Nothing leads me to believe that all will be true. Amd has always been better at multithreading since dual cores. That being said this is going to be an IPC war and whole I trust the engineer hired in, I don't trust the penny pinching department his design went through.

Yes and no. Both amd and Intel had $1000 CPU's when amd was good. Thing is you didn't need that $1000 cpu to beat Intels.

AMD hooked me up pay wise when they ended up in the Xbox and PS4. So I show some loyalty doubled my money when they went from $2ish to 4ish in the stock market.

So the point here is not only that AMD come back for getting lower intel cpu prices, but it will also force intel to stop troll us and again propose some new architecture far more competitive compared as we get now.
Competition not only bring down price but also force manufacturer to update their architecture, what intel and Nvidia are not doing lately or they hide them waiting the concurrence throw out their new products.

Yep and the i7950 is the evolution of core2duo architecture, that had been developed to counter the flop of P4 architecture, frankly really bad, against the Athlon architecture.
No we get at the same point that 10 years ago, with one manufacturer that lead with no competition and make no effort to release new architecture or instruction in their cpu.
So what AMD is doing now, it is what intel had done 10 years ago, hopefully for us.

So i repeat myself, having competitor do not only bring down the prices but also force the architecture to progress.
That's why i would not be so sure to get an intel cpu if AMD, like they said, build a de novo architecture that have nothing to do with the previous cpu, and if this one truly offer more performances that intel could offer now.
At same clock speed obviously.
