Just to clearfy for yearly disgussinon about motherboard oc potential my old ROG board vs. this i have now. After several benchmarks and test oc of my CPU at multiplier oc only vs. multiplier/BLCK oc vs. BLCK oc only. BLCK oc is a clear winner, unlocket multiplier or not. BLCK oc alone is still most effektive on X58. With a combo of multi and BLCK OC i cut not get the cpu above 4.53 GHz (multiplier 28 and BLCK at 168). With multiplier only my max OC where even more bad maxing out at 4.5 GHz and when i deaktivated turbo mode and locket multiplier to 25 max and raised BLCK to 185 an oc to 4.62 GHz at the same volts (1.45 vcore all other voltage all at stock and memory at 1.62 volts) as the other oc. BLCK is in my option still the most effektive way to oc on X58. There is no denial here about mobo oc potential. The new combo overclock just ass good if not better. difficalt to say since the same CPU havent been testet in bofh mobo. But what i can say for sure is that I7 980X at the same Vcore as i ran my old I7 920 under overclock, clocks around 200 MHz higher on cores. Exsample at 1.45 volt I7 920 maxed out at 4.41 GHz while I7 980X maxed out at 4.62 GHz. So not only better performence by getting more cores, core performence on its own also got a bit better by getting 200 MHz more OC at the same voltage and the new cpu cooler, fan and cpu combo also runs op to 10 degree Celsius cooler than my I7 920 combo dit. So all in all at great upgrade also because i got the new combo pretty cheap and sold the old cpu, mobo, memory and cooler for around 129 USD and pay 208 USD including shipping for the new combo and by taken what i sold the old parts for away from the total price of the new combo i pay 79 USD and if i also take the shipping away what i think is around 15 USD i pay 64 USD for at combo that gave me: I7 980X, Asus P6X58D PREMIUM mobo, Noctua NH-D14 CPU cooler and 12 GB (3 x 4 GB mobules) corsair vengeence DDR3 memory 1600 MHz rate but i keept my old memory because it has low cooling profile alowing to place the big ass CPU cooler better and replace the 2 noctua fans with 3 Silverstone FM 121 120MM fans. Oh and dont forget with the new second gen X58 mobo i also got USB 3 and sata 3/600 in the upgrade aswell.
So what i ended up selling for 129 USD where: I7 920 DO revision, Asus Rampage 2 extreme ROG mobo, Thermalright Ultra 120 extreme cpu cooler with two noctua fans and the corsair vengeence memory from the new combo.
So this upgrade set me back 64 USD and if i sold the I7 980X (have seen I7 980X in my country alone go for around 136 USD) and got a cheaper Xeon CPU (have seen on ebay these suckers go for as low as 40-50 USD) i cut properly have got it even cheaper.
For every day use i keep the CPU at 4.3 GHz at 1.35 Vcore. Because according to intel spec max safe vcore is 1.375 volts.
Here are a combo of different benchmark with CPU at 4.62 GHz and still all 6 core and HT active on air cooling. The most scary part of it where that this OC whas pretty easy to get after getting the right settings in bios and if i have the groins to pump even more voltage throw the CPU higher OC is also in for the grab, but i set the limit at 1.45 vcore.
What much are there to say other than if you are after a cheap gamer setup or maybe have an X58 setup with a 4 core cpu now and want to upgrade cpu but buget is low then yes getting a 6 core setup is not a bad upgrade and with a little luck and digging on sale sites and Ebay and patience you cut be lucky to get a great deal as i got. I am by no means dissapointet with new combo, its even better that i hoped for
