Is this a good price for this X58 bundle (208 USD for it all)?

Well the price is not that bad. As stated in this thread already i paid what currency is like 208 USD including shipping for CPU, motherboard, cpu cooler and 12 GB triple channel memory and if you go get a xeon in sted you can get it even cheaper.
I have seen Xeons with 6 core on ebay go for as low as around 40 USD alone.

Me

They are so close. But it also shut be that since my I7 and your Xeon is based on the same chip.
none the less i am happy with this little upgrade from the old I7 920. Dont get me wrong, that I7 920 dit an amazing job those 8 years i had it. That day i finally say good bye to X58 its gonna be a sad day but nothing last forever.
In the mean time i will enjoy that I7 980X to its fullest.

Lol that avatar and my avatar shows two badgers in sli

i would say that you have found a remarkable bargain. Though if it was me, i would consider selling the i7 and popping a X 5670 in.

Hmm i cut have swapped in a Xeon but that said. I7 980X is in my opinion just a bit more cool and by selling my old hardware i have more or less not paid much for it at all. Im keeping that 980X and besides it turned out to be a great clokker aswell.

So after having the I7 920 i have now for 8 great years and it still chucks away like elefants on a stampede throw a city.

I am beginning to have that feeling of i want to try something else. But my buget is low and i still love X58 to bits. Its old but it is so stable and overclock so great + performence is not that bad.

So i have found a X58 bundle i think would be an overall nice upgrade from something old to something just i bit newer but not by much off cause.

My current setup consist of:

I7 920 @ 4.4 GHz (but mostly 4.2 GHz cause of heat)
Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme CPU cooler with 2 120 MM silverstone FM 121 fans.
Asus Rampage 2 extreme ROG motherboard
12 GB (6 x 2 GB dims) Corsair DDR3 1600 MHz 1.65 volt rate 9-9-9-24 timmings. Totally non special ram at all.

That bundle i have found to a price including shipping of 208 USD:
I7 980X
Noctua NH-D14 CPU cooler
ASUS P6X58D Premium motherboard (a second gen X58 motherboard)
Corsair DDR3 12GB 1600-999 Vengeance K3 memory (3 x 4 modules)

And in my opinion and overall better setup. better CPU with 6 cores and a better CPU cooler at least what i know. Second gen X58 board that gives me Sata 3 and USB 3.0 in sted of sata 2 and USB 2.0 i have now. Memory shut also be a bit better aswell and since it is 3 x 4 GB modules alows me to get more memory if needed.

The old parts can be sold for like the half of the 200 USD or is that to much to exspect?
and by that hold the total money spend down aswell.

What you guys think about it?
I didn't read previous comments, just stating my opinion.

If you like X58 so much it's worth a shot, the cpu has 6 cores and games like bf1 use them now, also the cpu cooler is a tad better.

I'd then use the new cpu with your own Mainboard the Asus ROG and mix the new ram with the old combining it to 18gb of total Ram. Should be good for a few more years.

Yeah I'm lazy at times. Well then good job, can you do some bf1 benchmarking or write a experience report about it? I'd be curious how it performs there.

OK. Consider to buy it maybe it's a great game that'd make great use of your new cpu.

Nice clocks you achieved, I use the successor to your cpu the 3960x btw, atm with same overclock. I can tell you all 6 cpus are used in bf1 at about 100% util, such a great game. Atm only game I'm playing where the 6 Core stretches it's muscles, I got it used about 7 months ago as a experiment but I figured out Id needed it for bf1 anyway as my 3820 I had before didn't had 6 cores that could stretch out his legs hehe.

I am very satisfied with the clocks i got out of it. It is better than i hoped for. all 6 core used in BF1 how interesting. Need to read up on that :)

Yeah the game simply uses all real cores and ignores the hyper threaded ones, capping at 50% cpu usage all the time.

Yeah your cpu is the first line of 32nm Intel tech, you also switched from 45nm to 32nm that's why. A nice and good upgrade you did.

Yes its deffently a good upgrade. This cpu runs 4.5 ghz at 1.4 volt. The old i7 920 i had needed 1.45 volts for 4.4 ghz. In gennerel i7 980x runs much cooler than the old cpu even throw it has 2 more cores.

Just to clearfy for yearly disgussinon about motherboard oc potential my old ROG board vs. this i have now. After several benchmarks and test oc of my CPU at multiplier oc only vs. multiplier/BLCK oc vs. BLCK oc only. BLCK oc is a clear winner, unlocket multiplier or not. BLCK oc alone is still most effektive on X58. With a combo of multi and BLCK OC i cut not get the cpu above 4.53 GHz (multiplier 28 and BLCK at 168). With multiplier only my max OC where even more bad maxing out at 4.5 GHz and when i deaktivated turbo mode and locket multiplier to 25 max and raised BLCK to 185 an oc to 4.62 GHz at the same volts (1.45 vcore all other voltage all at stock and memory at 1.62 volts) as the other oc. BLCK is in my option still the most effektive way to oc on X58. There is no denial here about mobo oc potential. The new combo overclock just ass good if not better. difficalt to say since the same CPU havent been testet in bofh mobo. But what i can say for sure is that I7 980X at the same Vcore as i ran my old I7 920 under overclock, clocks around 200 MHz higher on cores. Exsample at 1.45 volt I7 920 maxed out at 4.41 GHz while I7 980X maxed out at 4.62 GHz. So not only better performence by getting more cores, core performence on its own also got a bit better by getting 200 MHz more OC at the same voltage and the new cpu cooler, fan and cpu combo also runs op to 10 degree Celsius cooler than my I7 920 combo dit. So all in all at great upgrade also because i got the new combo pretty cheap and sold the old cpu, mobo, memory and cooler for around 129 USD and pay 208 USD including shipping for the new combo and by taken what i sold the old parts for away from the total price of the new combo i pay 79 USD and if i also take the shipping away what i think is around 15 USD i pay 64 USD for at combo that gave me: I7 980X, Asus P6X58D PREMIUM mobo, Noctua NH-D14 CPU cooler and 12 GB (3 x 4 GB mobules) corsair vengeence DDR3 memory 1600 MHz rate but i keept my old memory because it has low cooling profile alowing to place the big ass CPU cooler better and replace the 2 noctua fans with 3 Silverstone FM 121 120MM fans. Oh and dont forget with the new second gen X58 mobo i also got USB 3 and sata 3/600 in the upgrade aswell.

So what i ended up selling for 129 USD where: I7 920 DO revision, Asus Rampage 2 extreme ROG mobo, Thermalright Ultra 120 extreme cpu cooler with two noctua fans and the corsair vengeence memory from the new combo.

So this upgrade set me back 64 USD and if i sold the I7 980X (have seen I7 980X in my country alone go for around 136 USD) and got a cheaper Xeon CPU (have seen on ebay these suckers go for as low as 40-50 USD) i cut properly have got it even cheaper.

For every day use i keep the CPU at 4.3 GHz at 1.35 Vcore. Because according to intel spec max safe vcore is 1.375 volts.

Here are a combo of different benchmark with CPU at 4.62 GHz and still all 6 core and HT active on air cooling. The most scary part of it where that this OC whas pretty easy to get after getting the right settings in bios and if i have the groins to pump even more voltage throw the CPU higher OC is also in for the grab, but i set the limit at 1.45 vcore.

What much are there to say other than if you are after a cheap gamer setup or maybe have an X58 setup with a 4 core cpu now and want to upgrade cpu but buget is low then yes getting a 6 core setup is not a bad upgrade and with a little luck and digging on sale sites and Ebay and patience you cut be lucky to get a great deal as i got. I am by no means dissapointet with new combo, its even better that i hoped for :peace:

Yeah it for sure is a succes story this time. The CPU performe and OC better than i hoped for. Since it have 6 cores and is a first gen hexa core desktop cpu i exspected it to also run hotter and by that limit my OC more than the I7 920 dit.
Lets just say i exspected lower OC that this CPU just has shown me it cut do and not only that but also clock even higher than my I7 920 at the same voltages cut run at and it is still running cooler two. totally not what i exspected.

Lets tage and exsample. I7 920 @ 4.41 GHz and I7 980X @ 4.62 GHz and both CPU at 1.45 vcore. In 3Dmark time spy at the cpu test I7 920 cut hit temp as hig as 91 C while I7 980X at even higher clocks not got any hotter than 80-81 C and thats is even at higher clocks + more cores active at the same time. And if not seen by my own eyes i would had exspected the I7 980X to run hotter that I7 920. Well 920 i 45 NM while 980X is a 32 NM chip but with 2 more cores would you not have exspected it to run hotter or at least just as hot?

okay to fair I7 980X is also opperating with a better CPU cooler but stil. 10 C is a huge difference when it is at the same vcore and 980X is even running at higher clock + more cores. This CPU is way better than i had hoped for.
