So, uh... I need some help beating Pirate Swarm, I'm trying to get the pirate Caterpillar skin. If anybody is up for teaming up for some Pirate Swarm today, LMK!!!

Unfortunately can't join tonight, but I have read that you get less ships spawn on dying star, and that the constellation Andromeda is too tough for most pirates to breach shields.

Any of you guys had luck with star marine? It's very broken for me

This game mode being so broken made me angrier than the past 3 years of delayed development. They can't even release a not-broken of something that's been delayed so much? I think the anger might partially be due to getting destroyed in star marine but either way it's a load of crap.

I was reading today that this game has raised 148.5 million dollars now. Incredible to think Roberts initially thought he might only get 4 million from crowdfunding and possibly another 6 million from investors. I'm wondering though at this point if maybe they should just cut off any further funding and then they would know exactly what they have to work with and press on to that goal and finish the game?

Anyway the game looks amazing. I'm really mostly interested in the single player Squadron 42. When that is complete then it's time to buy for me.

I wouldn't expect Vulcan anytime soon. There's been no mention of it in regards to the next big patch, but the sooner the better.

AFAIK, Lumberyard still uses OpenGL and DirectX 11. Until Amazon adds Vulkan to Lumberyard, I don't think Vulkan support is going to happen. Amazon has literally said nothing on this topic.

CIG mentioned Vulkan before switching from CryEngine to Lumberyard. It might be a dead goal now.

and why you should. persistent universe is supposed to be free to play and only squadron 42 will require payment. check out free game if it is worthy and then decide if you buy single player part

It's still using CIG's own "StarEngine", which is a derivation of CryEngine, the same as Lumberyard. The three are pretty vast in their differences though. CIG went with Amazon for support/features for CryEngine/Lumberyard/StarEngine and for AWS. CIG's work on Vulcan is not in parallel with Amazon or CryTek.

I'll believe it when I see it. Porting any OpenGL/DirectX11 to use Vulkan is no minor feat. Most that have tried (like Croteam) have had very piss-poor results. Vulkan/DirectX12 pretty much require a new engine (very significant rewrite) to do it right.

Chris Roberts himself hasn't commented on Vulkan/DX12 since September 2015: http://www.gamersnexus.net/gg/2114-chris-roberts-star-citizen-on-dx12-vulkan-and-tech

Lumberyard was announced back in December 2017: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/...dron-42-Utilize-Amazon-Lumberyard-Game-Engine

Vulkan was discussed by a staffer in March 2017: https://forums.robertsspaceindustries.com/discussion/comment/7581676/

This staffer that commented on it might be a small group of developers that are looking into supporting Vulkan but until Chris Roberts himself says it's going to happen, I'd take it with lethal dose of salt.

It can be pretty buggy still, but they're actively working on it and updating it now all the time with the new patcher/launcher. If I'm on a server where most have decent connections I'm averaging almost 40 fps. It's still a heck of a step-up from when I started the PTU.

Having a similar spec, i experience the same thing. Game does consume about 12GB of memory... it really brings all my memory to use

Installed 3.0.0 yesterday and took a little look at the state of this game again.

Gotta say I'm pretty impressed, and the potential here is huge. At the same time... UI wise there's a lot of work to be done.

Mobiglas is pretty dreadful to use, the font they use everywhere hurts my eyes and is hard to read, and the 30 FPS on Crusader is just painful to play and feels very much like an artificial limitation or server-related; CPU/GPU loads are very low. Some clipping here and there as well, especially getting into a ship. The whole F + separate cursor to interact also seems sluggish and unnecessarily hard though I understand what they're trying to do, you're actually pushing those buttons. The 'new' map mobiglas overlay thingy is also horrible, you have no idea what you're looking at, and again, clunkiness and unnecessarily slow and tough to navigate is the feeling I get out of that.

But then you fire up Star Marine for some matches... and boom 120 fps at highest settings, the immersion is like nothing else, it truly feels like you're using a suit, movement and weapon handling is realistic and very well done. Flying a ship: similarly awesome and immersive, but that wasn't really new.

This is starting to shape up as something special.. they are really pushing for that high immersion factor in everything. I can only hope they find a good balance between immersive gameplay and 'ease of use' because right now its lacking the latter.

and why you should. persistent universe is supposed to be free to play and only squadron 42 will require payment. check out free game if it is worthy and then decide if you buy single player part

Do you really think that's how it'll work? The persistent universe is NEVER going to be truly free to play. The subscription models are already there on the horizon in the form of ship insurance - that's been apparent to me from day one TBH.

I got a beta unlock from my Optane purchase, but I've yet to play. Just registered awhile back. I'll probably just keep waiting. I'm not big on Betas in general (especially MMOs, which are susceptible to wipes).

One thing I hope is that I get the final version as a standalone game, like this Beta version. I hope it won't be tied to Steam or something. It's easier this way for me to dedicate a specific drive for where I want to install it.

You can dedicate multiple game install locations in Steam BTW. Been able to do that for quite some time now. Lmk if you need directions. :)

Frankly I hope we get the option to add it to Steam. But either way doesn't really matter. I still run my copy of Elite Dangerous out of Steam. But its nice the option is there IMHO.

I'm gonna fire this up tonight...after what I've been reading and hopefully having some time to game I'm ready to give 3.0 a fair run!

Hah! Really? Ignore what I said then. I'll look and fiddle around some more. I thought that once I commited a Steam folder, I couldn't pick and choose on individual games later.
