Boy that LTT video was fun to watch.

The whole time I couldn't help but think that they want reviewers to focus on raytracing because AMD is so bad at it. If I was sitting in Nvidia's PR department I'd be frustrated that not enough media outlets have highlighted how bad the 6000 series is at RT. That said, I think I speak for most gamers when I say they reason it's not being highlighted as much is because MOST people don't turn on raytracing because of the performance hit. There's clearly a lot to gain visually from enabling it in games like cyberpunk 2077, but good luck doing that and getting playable framerates on anything below a 3080, which you can't buy.

The only game I play currently with RT is WoW: Shadowlands. In that game, you take a giant hit for almost no visual gain. I would say that's most games at this point and why it's an afterthought when most media outlets review nvidia cards. Most people WANT to use RT, but its just not worth it. It's Nvidia's job to make it worth it, not the reviewers.

Right? He let it all out!

I cringed at the hitler comparison, something I think may bite him in the ass, but if I were AMD I'd jump on this right away. Makes you wonder if there's a bigger reason Apple, Microsoft, and Sony don't use their products.

Voting with wallets is a fine sentiment, but it's completely unrealistic. Kudos to anyone who follows through though.

Right? He let it all out!
Not many people would straight up say "go f*** yourself" But, well, he's a giant in that media space.

I cringed too(at a couple points actually LOL!), but then thought about it. He's not wrong. While the comparison might be a bit harsh, it's not inaccurate. This is not how we as a society behave in the 21st century. We're better than that nonsense and to see it happen is not ok.

Exactly. Like him or not, Linus is force to be reckoned with. This is an example of him using his power for good. He has no vested interest in HWUB but took the charge anyway because it's the right thing to do for Steve, the reviewer community and the public.

Oh he's definitely not wrong, a lot of people are just incredibly sensitive. Not my opinion that he should be bashed over it, more a commentary on how I'd expect people to react.

No, I got it. Just don't think they intended to dip their toes into this pond. Whatever the reason, this thread continuing to exist and an absence of a news story sends a message, if only indirectly.
I have to imagine it was a strategic decision. Lord knows this is real news and not some copy/paste PR announcement. I'd imagine something like this garners a shed load of hits... so...........either the team missed it last week (or I missed the article to which I wonder why this one is open, lol) or they made a conscious effort not to post it (fear of a consequence? No idea). Anyway, sorry for the OT. :)

EDIT: Whatever the reason, I'm disappointed this isn't news here.

You probably called them out on it way back then, so did Tpu no doubt and the others.

As they should.

No one should be sugar coating, or downplaying or but look at theming this type of anti consumer bullshit ever.

Damn and Nvidia's time out from my money was over , to them nauught cash is going again from me.

Hi,
So what's the story nvidia lost a amd customer ?
See Linus's video, he covered it well or dare I say Hardware unboxed latest.

They won't care about one and your wrong I'm a tech enthusiast not a corporate enthusiast , AMD Intel and Nvidia get more than a fair share of mine and those I build for money.
And I still will happily build an intel /Nvidia rig for anyone paying me to , I just won't be buying for a bit.

Again I feel your slanted suttle dig requires a mirror , check my systems and add an ,i5 work laptop Intel fablet and an intel Nvidia file server and you might catch onto reality.

But yeh go you defender.

I game on that mostly at the moment(main rig mostly crunching and folding) and I've a few Nvidia graphics cards about me that you also can't see and four other non AMD in any way x86 systems you also can't see, as I said.

But you're here getting in on the tuber dramma to downplay it?!

Anyway I ain't here to bicker with you just to say.

Shit move Nvidia , get it sorted n stop being tools.

As for the free GPU comments I'd love @W1zzard to throw his opinion in on if he appreciates the free graphics cards he gets or like all the tuber's does he see it as a contract to DO work and get work done indirectly promoting that device's virtues.

Hi,
Pretty much like I said tubers can buy gpu's/.... and review those items just like normal people can and do on every release
I haven't jumped on the rtx series at all so I could care a less for the features nvidia is insisting on tubers to show case

But then again I've never watched a tuber and bought a product a tuber ever suggested either
I buy what I want too.

If Nvidia had just said they didn't have enough samples to send out, that would have been one thing. It was the way that email was worded to specifically say "play ball or else" to a media outlet is what is concerning.

Look, I don't give a damn what product people decide to buy. I give whatever company my money that makes the best product at the time and don't believe in brand loyalty. It's stupid. An email sent to a reviewer from the head of PR of a major corporation with THAT wording is what's concerning, not that he didn't get his sample and was lied to. Anytime a company says you need to review our products the way they way we want them to be reviewed or else, everyone should be concerned. Period.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone higher up sent that guy an email or called him and said "fix this, or else" after this story broke.

There's many sources for news , the modern world is moving to video from text, it's just a fact and a fact that couldn't care less(used correctly) about your singular opinion either.
I read many, many reviews And watch many too so do others.
Then buy or not, obviously, that's what most in this forum do I'd imagine.

thats what already happened. He came out and apologized/back tracked.

I watched the LTT video (or the part covering this at least) a couple of days back, was wondering when someone would bring it up here. Have to say I entirely agree with Lex's rant and the overall sentiment. Seems like Nvidia is committed to periodically reminding us that they like to push the envelope on shitty marketing tactics. Last time around it was the GPP, now this... I mean, AMD marketing is generally childish and terrible in a lot of ways, but at least I've never seen them actively trying to police the editorial policies of reviewers. That is disgusting. I'm glad I've already settled on getting a Radeon next time around too, I would have had some serious second thoughts if I had leaned towards GeForce right now...

There's many sources for news , the modern world is moving to video from text, it's just a fact and a fact that couldn't care less(used correctly) about your singular opinion either.
I read many, many reviews And watch many too so do others.
Then buy or not, obviously, that's what most in this forum do I'd imagine.
Hi,
Well can't say I care about your opinion either bud so guess we're even so what now I'm rubber and you're glue :rockout:

I just want to say that this point is stupid and will always remain stupid, I don't blame them for never focusing too much on that.

Lower electricity cost for these types of products is simply too small to justify a purchase like that, even if a 1650 saves you 20 bucks over a two year period or something like that it's not like you get a check at the moment you buy the card for it, that sum of money is spread out so thinly over that period of time that it's completely irrelevant to the overwhelming majority of people. That's why they don't bother to do it, it just doesn't matter.

And if you do care about that and you are counting pennies every month for your electrical bill, you probably have bigger problems on your hand.

I think power is a relevant one wrt cost of ownership when there is a situation of competing cards in performance and price, where the gap in TDPs is substantial. With Vega 64 you could be looking at as much as 25-30% gaps and that is substantial, and worth factoring in.

You can also turn it around, the added cost pf that gap could buy you a higher tier GPU when a stack is properly spaced apart. That aint nothing.

We are talking about devices that accumulate at least 20% of their purchase cost in additional power bill expenses. So in a relative sense... saying this is nothing seems a bit like ignorance is bliss. It gets hidden in a power bill... Not something to make mountains of, but certsinly not a mole hill to completely ignore if all else is about equal.

And thats ignoring the potential extra cost and or noise of cooling.
