If I give you a supercar to review, and you drive it like a grandma, don't expect to get more cars in the future.
If they just want a PR release, they don’t need reviewers and can do it themselves. You take a chance when you ask for your product to be reviewed. As I said earlier, they can’t have it both ways.

So you're using in-motion screenshots for image quality comparisons? That's a terrible idea! >90% of monitors/TVs that game is played on are likely to introduce more blur than that motion blur filter. As for the SSD comparison ... nah. Sorry. Not comparable. Seriously, show me a full screen static screenshot comparison of any game across the two console generations where the new generation doesn't either deliver better quality or better framerates (if not both). Picking and choosing one where one system has motion blur added and one doesn't ... doesn't prove that one looks better than the other, just that one has a filter added and the other doesn't. Go figure.

But maybe it's about time this got back on topic? I don't see how this relates to Nvidia's shady marketing tactics ...

Let me just say this : There's no mistaking the difference between Xbox One and Xbox 360, regardless of how the screenshot is made. There are a lot of places where Series X and One look almost the same though. And yet these same sites hype up the difference between XBox Series X and PS 5 vs older gen consoles. Yet, it's apparent that this is the smallest jump ever for consoles.

Which of them noted that? None. So my point is, who said these review sites were unbiased? The reviewers themselves, surprise. Why is that taken at face value?

They make money doing this. This is the way the game is played if you make a living doing this. You don't really think these people who make millions doing reviews are entitled and unbiased do you? They act all indignant on these videos, based on responses they have a gullible low IQ audience is all I can think.

Look at car and motorcycle, stereo, TV reviews - early access is given to the privileged few. Piss them off and you get squat. There are reader-sponsored review organizations that have popped up because of these bias'. Consumerreports.org comes to mind.

This industry is not immune. Don't think for a second these guys don't know who pays their bills. Every single one of them. They are absolutely freakin bias, it's human nature, and they're probably laughing all the way to the bank.

If the product's finest next-gen feature is ignored by the reviewer, there is a problem.
It wasn't ignored by any stretch of the term though in fact it got it's own video.

They're cyberpunk 2077 review of 25 different cards also highlighted raytracing performance well, better than anyone elses

Watch some of it before throwing in with nonsense.

Many review videos on other products are start with "I am not sponsored nor do I receive anything from this company"
It's a slimy move no question but they could just stop the reviews or taking products. Aren't you concerned that these samples are hand selected?

Just an off hand estimate but with gaming videos making about $2-$3 CPM on YouTube, it looks like this drama just made JayZ, LTT, and HW Unboxed roughly $6000 between the 3 of them. That's just so far today. The videos won't go away, they'll keep on making money forever.

In the world of YouTube Drama = $$$$$$$, the Drama may be manufactured but the money is real.

Agreed. LinusMediaGroup is a bit of an outlier as they're the largest tech tuber media outlet I can think of and therefore are likely less dependent on ad revenue from day one coverage compared to other smaller outlets, but it's still definitely a significant chunk:
LMG 2020 Revenue.PNG

I firmly believe that these reviewers are unbiased - that's the nature of a review. Their whole objective is to provide consumers with the information needed to make a well-informed purchasing decision. Yes, making money is likely part of that equation as well, but I don't believe any of the major media outlets is altering their testing to make one product look better than the other. Each channel is allowed its own prerogative of course, that's what makes them unique. HWUB places a lot of value on bang-for-buck, and I feel like a lot of people get that confused with being an AMD shill. Given that RTRT is still in its (relatively) early days (supported by less than 30 games) and often comes at the cost of a not-insignificant performance hit, it makes sense that reviewers wouldn't recommend spending more on a card whose main selling point is an feature that is still yet to be widely supported. That said, others features like RTX Voice, Reflex, DLSS 2.0 have all been well regarded as far as I saw. HWUB is allowed to place their own value on RTRT just like a consumer that's looking to buy a new card would - as others have mentioned, if Nvidia wants a press release they should just do it themselves. For Nvidia to claim that HWUB don't align with the views of all gamers everywhere is a bit much. As was mentioned in the WAN show, Nvidia's DLSS page on their website literally displays a quote from HWUB as the first showcase on the rotating banner: "Extremely impressive"

If the review sites were trying to serve the needs of their viewers, then why aren't they running benchmarks on games that are most popular?

Why do the big review sites all run the same benchmarks?

One of the biggest things I like on TPU is that they link to little seen reviews. From that, one can sometimes see performance comparisons that are constantly missing in these cookie cutter review sites.

Here's a couple of charts I bet like <1% of folks here have seen, from recently linked reviews from TPU's home page.

These challenge popular notions. Those big sites never point this stuff out, which in my view makes them quite dubious if you think about it.

Edit: There are two tales being told here. One is how good Zen 3 is for gaming, even on lesser cards. The other tale is how bad Zen 2 was and is, even on older/slower cards. One of these tales got told, the other got a pass. That is bias in play.

Team fortress on a 1080 Ti. Who says you can't see a difference between CPUs with an older card? GPU limited? Maybe not.

TF 2 is one of the most popular games on the planet for many years.

Here's Dota 2, again one of the most popular games in existence for many years. At 4K, with a 3070. Who says you can't tell a difference between CPUs at 4k again?

Reason he was not going to get more free samples was because he didn't play up features to Nvidias liking.

Nvidia whining about him not playing up feature when he said he was going to cover it in another video but still threatens to take away the toys. Sure HWUB/TechSpot can get by without Nvidia seeding them but it sends a message to all others reviewers to play up features to Nvidias standard/liking or else your toys will too be taken away.

It muddies the water as well. Is your favorite reviewers going forward are they providing an un-influenced review or does it get tainted by the threat of having Nvidia not seed GPUs.

Nah he's fine getting free samples just as long as his editorial style gets most Rtx positive, simples.

Nothing less or other than this is the point.

He isn't arsed, basically said f Nvidia same as Linus, shit would still happen, no one rates free samples over integrity apparently, good news.

I'd say there's about a snowballs chance in hell BDR wrote that email. It's got certain fingerprints all over it, and they aren't his.

Glad to see the company step back from this most dangerous ledge. For now.

If I give you a supercar to review, and you drive it like a grandma, don't expect to get more cars in the future.
Yeah. And there's only two race tracks capable running the supercar on. When vast majority of the pavement is public open roads and the majority (77% to be exact) of the reviewer's target audience wants driving characteristics of off-track.

Should I continue with the shitty analogy?

If the product's finest next-gen feature is ignored by the reviewer, there is a problem.
I've seen this argument so much but when and where was it ignored. Iirc even wizzard posts his ray tracing performance at the end on a single page with only one or two rt games used. Is he a problem?

we know why Nvidia are doing it. They invested in AI tensor cores. Gaming is second fiddle. So they have to make up reasons to use them so the gamers will buy their reject A100 chips.

Imagine Tesla sent HUB a Model X,
Steve: "yeah I don't give a rat ass about electric car, 99.9% of cars out there are running fossil fuel"

This dude is just a stubborn coot who is living in the past anyways, Tim on the other hand is a fantastic tech reviewer who has been doing all the DXR/DLSS in-depth reviews.

And nobody said this is OK, lol (da fuq?). I'm simply surprised at all the incredulous responses over such a common activity. ;)

It needs to go away sure, but, it won't. Light has been shed on this issue with multple entities and it still goes on. This isn't the first time for NV, even. It sucks, more so for smaller sites that don't always get the nod for first run parts and cannot afford to buy (a lot of) samples.

But yeah, this is, sadly, almost an industry standard. It made 'news' because they did it to such a high profile reviewer/YTer.
Sorry but the impression about this topic and your writing made it sound like that's the way it is deal with it. Our reaction to this and how it has been handled is the first step for this not to happen. So in my eyes, anyone saying it's been happening for ages, makes it sound like we have to deal with this fact and do nothing about it.
Glad you don't think so and it was only an impression. It doesn't matter to whom they did it. Since f it is a higher ranked youtuber, than it would only mean NV feels pretty cheeky to say it outright to them. This makes me think about the reasoning, meaning and it does makes me think about this situation. That only reflects bad on NV and I can't believe how stupid of a move that was.

Anyway.
That still makes me think who is going to get his/her ass chewed for this. Bryan Del Rizzo mustn't have read the contents of the letter he had signed. (he's gonna have to answer to that for sure) Wonder who was the author of it. Was it him? I seriously doubt that because if it was him, then he will get his ass fired for that. Retraction from him was sent anyway. Wonder what happens now cause this situation would not come out good for NV anyway. The bodies started falling out from the closet and what now?

BTW:
I got this at the proshop store. 4-10 days delivery and in stock. Any takers?
