102C memory junction to 96C, and this is as ghetto as it comes

I'm looking into a 92mm/100mm alu heatsink off the net to slap on with thermal tape

There are 2.5" SATA "heatsinks" available on amazon and ebay that look like they'd add some nice surface area, and could have a 92mm fan slapped on top...

i have a spare 280mm AIO and i'd totally do something stupid with it, if i could secure it.

2x copper heatsinks have been ordered, say they'll arrive before may lol. we'll see how big a difference they make with a 92mm fan on top.

Are those pads powerful enough to take full advantage of a 280mm waterblock?
You might want to consider a carbon-based pad instead.

I'm literally throwing crap inside this room on top to see what happens

I have burned one of my fingers on something that was over 100C, i have a blister the size of a pinhead now

i'm not seeing any real temp differences, but using bitcoin mining as a benchmark (garbage idea) i see about a 20 cent improvement. STONKS.

(this was with the AIO sitting in place but unplugged, then connecting the SATA cable and seeing what happened)

the fan drops somewhere between 5% and 10%, so it IS moving heat

$13.5/day! You only have to run it 24/7 for 200 days for it to pay for itself...
May I recommend a waterblock? That might take a few days off...

I have now undervolted to 0.725v 1600Mhz because nothing i do needs the full 350W of this card

It now only runs at 290W bitcoin mining (waaaaay less in games) at 50% fan speed, 60C
(of course, it still has the intel heatsink and the AIO sitting on its back helping a little)

How much of a performance difference does the undervolting make? Based on what I've read in other threads, it's quite possible to reduce power draw a lot with minimal impact to performance.

So I am wanting to undervolt/overclock my ASUS 3070 Dual OC. It currently maxes at around 1815 or so on the core but goes to about 70C (before hand it was heating up more but seems to now balance out at around 71 or so).

My options seem to be MSI afterburner and ASUS OC tool.

Guys, I was just wondering has anyone had any luck cooling these cards memories down or is it not such a problem?? I've seen quite a few getto mods on these cards, which leads me to wonder if it's a weak spot on the cards or if the manufactures just didn't plan well enough for when it comes to mining :laugh:

Has anyone got a card under water? Does the memory temp drop a lot compared to air?

When cards are pushed beyond their sweet spot, performance increases come at an exponential cost in power draw. Depending on how far the card is pushed, you can reduce power draw by 20 (or maybe even) 30 percent in exchange for 5-10 percent performance.

But the thing is, you shouldn't have to undervolt. Undervolting needs thorough testing and software that's usually available only for Windows. As a customer, you shouldn't be subjected to these.

I have a card at home (sadly not a 3000 series) but it has a very high memory temp (might be a faulty sensor or an incorrect reading I guess?) but I read a lot about the 3080/3090 having similar issues... I just wondered what owners of the cards have noticed with theirs

I bet putting thermal paste in between the backplate and the AIO can decrease VRAM temp even further, leaving more room for memory overclock.

piss all really - i was seeing the GPU sit around 1750 in regular benchies once it was heat soaked, so i've lost almost nothing except some bursty clocks. I could of course aim for a higher static OC, but its summer here so i'm in the mood for minimum voltages.

my backplate gets HOT - you cant hold your finger on it. IR gun says 70C, i cant help but wonder if its misreading due to age, but the heat transfer makes me confident its got decent stock pads.

Bought a 3d printer, so de-shrouded the 3080 again and went duct-mad, plus some tiny cute heatsinks on the backplate for the memory... might add more.

What's your temp like? I just downsized to an NR200p and ghettoed the deshroud mod as the temps were abysmal. I'm using the 3080 Ventus Gaming OC and getting average 62C on Core and 93C on Mem junction during mining for several hours. I replaced the stock thermal pads with Gelid's 12 W/mk pads and they made a big difference. It was getting to 100C+ before.
