As to the undervolting peeps: Well, summer was hot here and then 99% of my games were fine at this clock level. I'm happy for better efficiency until i need the juice.

Okay silly copper heatsinks have arrived:

Nicehash mining on low TDP (it heats the ram FAAAAAST)

Stock: 96C
Intel stock heatsink on top: 92C
Copper slabs (no adhesive/pads yet): 90C

It took no time at all for that backplate to roast these copper plates to 60C according to my temp probe, finger says "ah shit its hotter than that"

Hmmm, so the copper slabs heated up over time and back to 92-94C we go (ambients went up 1C)

Needs more fans? theres a friggin 92mm noctua on there

Okay so take three:

1. The thermal pads i used at the top were too thick and warping the backplate, so i used my fingers and crushed them flatter to un-warp the backplate
2. ADHESIVE TIME
3. wow it worked
4. (i think the bottom facing ones need better sized pads to work fully at high TDP mining... i fucked up getting 3mm pads instead of 2mm i think? maybe i need to combine my other ones and make 1.5mm i dunno)

Oh that sucks. The HWL rad production is spotty especially now. I went with the primered ready rads instead their crinkle coated because it was available. That said I dislike their crinkle finish which is so 80's, lol. Their stock will return, it just could take some time unfortunately. These new GTX rads are really great though. I used two GTX 480s in a threadripper build and they tame a 1100w load just the two rads.

Turns out one of the BOTTOM thermal pads slipped out of position - did a tear down to replace the VRM pad and noticed it had done a woopsie, temps are heaps better now

96C VRAM while mining at full power MAKES MUSSELS.... well it makes it "okay" since the fans stay at low speeds

3090 owners: what temp does your GPU and Tjunction idle at?

I'm finding my VRAM/TJ takes a loooooong time to cool down after mining or gaming, lowest it gets is around 45C idle (which for such a huge cooler and no load, seems hot)

Well the Tjunction sensor is inside the module after all, it should be 20C hotter than the surface of the module, which is sitting at ambient temp during idling.

Since I'm on water for the front of the GPU my data is probably not super useful for you. But this is what I get when dropping from an X-hour mining load (with slight memory OC, getting 111MH/s):

Instantly drops from 70°C down to ~50°C and then continues on to settle at 32°C after a minute. I did glue some heatsinks to the backplate and point a fan at it to try and improve the backside thermals.

Galax 3090 SG is indeed using reference PCB, however all EVGA models are using custom PCB

So you can't use waterblock for the EVGA XC3 model, only WB for Reference PCB.

FWIW, I dissected my Asus TUF 3080 and had Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut and Thermalright Oddessey 12.8w/mk pads on hand, fully ready to improve the situation, and I'm willing to wager Asus has used either those exact same pads, or ones with the same thermal xfer properties. I have the same temps as before across the board and basically took the risk of dissecting the card for nothing. Asus has put together an absolutely top-notch product with the TUF 3080.
