Technical Issues - TPU Main Site & Forum (2021)

That isn't always a good idea. Cached data is not meant to be personal or tracking data - it's just meant to be for convenience - e.g. session data or form data to be filled. Plus it saves you network requests and saves internet data.
That can't be it. Our caching headers are properly hand-tuned to never cache html pages, only specific images, with specific lifetimes, etc

That isn't always a good idea.
I've been doing it for many years with no ill effect. Going to confidently continue.

You'd think, but it's widely used that way. There are also security concerns that I will not go into detail about.
Plus it saves you network requests and saves internet data.
Not as much as you'd think. And I'll be honest here, I care more about security than network bandwidth.

Would that prevent the cache from becoming polluted/corrupted? Regardless of your clean coding, browsers don't always play nice.

Folks, if you're having glitches and problems with TPU(or any other site), clear your cookies and browser cache and see if the problems right themselves.

This could be why I never seem to see problems like the above. My browser is configured to delete ALL cookies and LTSO's on exit. As a result, everytime I visit site data has to be loaded fresh as opposed to accessing cached data, which doesn't exist. This means that when changes are made to the site compatibility with cached data is never an issue.

Perhaps those of you having problems should consider deleting cookies and cached site data.
I've seen you complain of bugs and issues related to security features before, such as verifying logins - your method has some negatives

I dont come on TPU in one binge every day, i'm on here 24/7, 365 165FPS - and getting logged out and forced to log in every time i close my browser would be a royal pain in the ass, let alone the more secure sites that would make me log back in with 2FA

On a work system? sure.
On a secure system? pain in the ass for no benefit.

Not very often.
your method has some negatives
Nothing significant.

Neither do I generally.

It takes me 3seconds to login. It's not a PITA.
let alone the more secure sites that would make me log back in with 2FA
I generally avoid sites with 2FA. Do the few that I do visit, it's still not an irritation enough to change my computing methodology and ethic.

I'm not going to spend 3 hours typing up why what I do works except to say if the cookies and cache is wiped when the tab for a site is closed, that data can not be captured or data mined. Everyone is free to compute in a less than secure way, but that is not going to stop me from promoting a proper computing ethic.

But I digress, we're straying from the topic..

We’re having some server issues at the moment. Seems our hosting company is changing their network and didn’t notify us ahead of this, and I’m gone on ski holiday…

As soon as it was down i laughed knowing you'd be on holiday - you've been cursed

Imagecache (or something)'s broken still, only some images are loading.

It's funny, it only half loads on my home internet connection, but eventually loads on my smartphone on its connection. Been like this since yesterday.

If you get much more of this, I'd recommend changing your hosting to something more reliable.

Was it offline a few mins ago?
we had an issue yesterday, not sure that there was a problem today, but there always could have been an "aftershock" :) you have a problem accessing the site?
"Hold on, I'm being told... we may still be seeing ... Celery issues??? Oh, sorry. 'Site' issues... We'll update as the situational unfolds here...."

I can't see the large avatar pics (yours at https://tpucdn.com/forums/data/avatars/o/49/49663.jpg?1556197263 or any other)

and I'm often getting a 502 Bad Gateway error when reloading this page or posting - it took me a few attempts to post this successfully.

Edit: seeing avatars now. CDN synchronisation?

I changed some dns settings for tpucdn, restarting your browser or refreshing dns or waiting a bit will help

The tpucdn.com domain was unresponsive a few minutes ago (it's 20:00 GMT now).

At the time it took me 3-4 minutes to log into the TPU forum server and the comment entry widget was busted.

Clearly there are still problems with the site. I'm off to other adventures, I'll try again tomorrow.

Was literally working on it at that time

@W1zzard TPU forums seem to be working fine atm, appart from the avatar picture of MY OWN profile. All is good, pages are loading, no 500 errors.

Working ok now.

Always when it’s least convenient. But since changes aren’t saved…..
