Intel is going to lock this down IMHO get the BIOS if you have the Z690 Apex or Hero.

I'm sure Intel will absolutely ask ASUS and other vendors (AsRock?) to close this loophole cause it makes their products segmentation null and void.

Nice, ADL is so crappy isn't it /s

I see quite the opposite. Not sure if it's a joke, sarcasm or something else. ADL is actually great.

Yeah, they'll get right on that!.... :rolleyes:

It was sarcasm, thus the " /s "...

I use /s for sarcasm as there is no other way to get it across. I actually have a 12700k and luuuurve it

Lots will be storing that 0811 bios for future reference i am sure.

Hi everyone, I wanted to understand something about the i7-12700k CPU. Using CPU-Z on my CPU, the cache is described as in this image [https://ibb.co/kc22fvK]. But looking on the net I found it described like this [https://ibb.co/R0ntLqH].
Is there an explanation for this? Are there perhaps 2 different variants? Or is mine a faulty model?
I also ask because I am having some small problem with this CPU, for example when I start a video (using MPC-HC, MPC-BE, VLC or even the one integrated in Win11), I always have a little stutter when starting the video (and even in the middle if I zap) problems I didn't have with the previous CPU (i7-3770).

One CPU-Z screenshot version is 1.98 the other is 1.99. There are changes between the two versions.

Try with version 1.98 and see if it shows the same.

Here is mine on 1.99.0 i think it's correct. 8x2+4=12 cores/20 threads

Tried vieos with VLC and no stutter when starting up or skipping around, it is instant.

Thanks for the screenshot, at this point I am wondering is it really possible that it has a faulty CPU ??? :(
Maybe the issue it with your motherboard. Are you running the latest BIOS?

I tinkered with the BIOS a bit, if I disable the virtualization the cache becomes correct (but I have anyway the stutters in the videos ...). Curiously both CPU-Z and Intel Processor Identification Utility say my CPU doesn't support VT-x if I keep it on, but they say it supports it if I turn it off. I'm not understanding anything anymore.

Meh.

12400f = $175 (4.4GHz)
12400 = $200
12500 = $210 (4.6GHz)
12600kf = $270 (4.9GHz)
12600k = $295

So if they take a $700 motherboard, then they can get the 12400f or 12400 to 5.1 GHz, which will lose to a 12600k, which is barely slower but has more cores. And they only needed to spend $500 more on the board.
