The asus z690-a wifi d4 has lga 1200 holes so will fit till you get the 1700 plate.

No, it's still out for delivery now. I don't think I'm going to get the 1700 plate. That's one of the biggest reasons I picked Asus is because they have 1200 and 1700 holes. I wish more would have went that route due to the lack of 1700 coolers.

There is an argument out there that LGA115x/1200 holes do not allow for proper pressure and surface mating, which is improved using LGA1700 hardware. Have seen this in the wild and even hear it from cooler manufacturers.

There has been evidence shown that lends to this, but it seems conditional on the mounting mechanism and how the pressure is applied.

My Block is not actually stated as 1700 compatible. The holes are elongated for the other compatible boards/sockets. Because of this it fits fine on the 1700 with the hefty thick 1700 back plate. I have pics of the paste spread which imo is very good. i will post them if anyone wants to see them.

If you need me to, i will even try mine with the 1200 backplate and post the paste spread. Yours should be fine @Mindweaver

Edit, it actually does not even say on the box LGA1200 but sure it does on the web page.

Could be the jet plate in the block, iirc they do make the block bulge don't they?

If you have enough paste, fit it then take it off so we can see what your spread is like.

If you're going to lap it, also check on how your temps respond to the ILM washer mod. Lapping the dome down and leaving the stock ILM tension may lead to you inadvertently warping the IHS, leaving you again with worse thermals.

I saw a video of that washer mod by Der8auer and it made virtually no difference and i am pretty sure he is reliable. I am not lapping mine, don't want to void the warranty(yet) and my temps are very acceptable.

Igor and Buildzoid are both as reliable in my book. Two out of three say it works, and they also stated it's not going to affect every board as it's down to a variety of factors from ILM manufacturer to board design. The entire reason for mentioning it is that all information on the subject is worth looking into before taking action.

@Fouquin -- i did try that actually but it didn't do much Im afraid...

I have 9C difference between hottest and coldest cores at full load - contact is definitely iffy. my 24/7 settings clip using TVB at 80C -1x to 52x and then again to -2 = 51x at 85C - so it never breaks 83C and 90% of the time stays below 80 during CB R23 runs.

Can't get too mad at those temps coming from the 10850K.

TVB clipping settings during avx are a little weird though since it doesn't drop multis consistently, still fiddling with it. it offsets it from the default clocks of the chip :/ and even if I OC on the bclk the TVB is offestting based on clocks.

Would be nice to have a 5.5ghz all core until a certain point then just have it gently drop to 5.4, 5.3, 5.2 to keep it below 85C.

Could it be intentional? given that the center will get hottest and so expand more?

Like the way pistons are made off round.

No , the block doesn't bulge unless the jetplate gets blocked and it's not the copper base that deforms , it wouldn't affect your CPU IHS.
At any rate if it's not causing a temperature issue it's not an issue.
Unless that's already CPU warping.

Could/ did you get your eye down on it, from the top it's hard to judge but with the CPU and Hsf fitted to the motherboard what did the compression amount to, warped board CPU socket or all fine and level, Personally I would want to know since it could start causing issues down the road.

I'm running my 12700k Gasp stock. It is a big step up from my previous setup, and even stock, a 12700k is a pretty good CPU

This is pretty much my situation my chip is a bit worse binned than yours at the higher volts (I cant complete CPUz runs @ 1.56v at 5.6) - 5.3 (well 5.287 due to bclk clock gen) is silent and super easy to cool @ 1.28v - to bump up to 5.4 i need 1.36v and 5.5v needs close to 1.5v. So i just stay at 5.3 for day to day and gaming .

My cooler is a push pull 280mm loop with a ek supremacy evo block from forever ago.
