RTX 3060 Freezing for number of seconds then unfreezes???

Well, I don't really know how I can underclock it with the bios though all I know how to use is MSI afterburner lol

No, what I'm asking is if the previous owner flashed it with an overclocked bios. That could certainly cause these problems, especially if the card has some wear and tear on it making it unable to maintain those clocks.

Really glad you got it working though as it looked like it was bad for sure.

Unlikely. There are no BIOS editors available for Ampere GPUs.

Sounds more like program/config or user error to me.

Not much of a mystery anymore because i found out it was an overclocked BIOS!

what's up with people these days OVERCLOCKING an already awesome GPU just for frames and totally screwing it up in the process? lol

I mean it's working now as i type and i just cannot wrap my head around the thought of doing so..???

That's how i was able to underclock it.

I'm 100% sure you did not have an overclocked BIOS. These things just... don't exist for Ampere cards.

The GPUs will only boot with a signed BIOS, and only NVIDIA can sign them, which means that NVIDIA is technically aware of every single retail board design out there, and even if someone sold an unlicensed design like some Chinese companies do, that would ensure that at least the NVIDIA processor (the GPU itself) is genuine.

BTW get rid of all this junk like driver booster, you don't need this and it's likely that it causes problems, too.

Yeah that card isn't running an overclocked BIOS at all. You just lowered the memory bandwidth as low as it lets you.

If this stopped crashing at idle or moderate workloads, the most likely scenario is that this GPU was used for cryptocurrency mining to the breaking point, and since Ethereum mining is known to heavily stress the memory system - and this being a dirt cheap HP card sourced from some prebuilt, my guess is that the memory ran at 100°C+ for its entire service life in the digital mines, began to crash and error out and then the seller put it on eBay for such a low price to attract unsuspecting buyers, to be nice with you here.

The GPU is still running ok but it does weird things, whenever I restart the PC it goes black again but I already know how that is fixed and it's not really a fix but a "patch" I guess.. It still works great for everything else despite it's abuse by the previous owners though.. I also forgot to mention how I "patched" it:
I fixed it by underclocking the GPU with Nvidia inspector and saving the settings as a desktop shortcut and that's really all I had to do.. anyone know a more helpful or better way?? And please dont just say "buy a new one". Because I can't.. thank you all once again!!!!!!

Create a shortcut for NVIDIA Inspector with the desired clocks in the target field and place it on your startup, I used to do this with my old GT 650M. Documentation has the exact command line switches you want.

But heed qubit's advice. That thing is a ticking time bomb.
