So after 7 years on the same windows 10 installation I decided to install windows 11. Had the same installation through 5 platforms (X99, X370, X470, X570, and X670E).
My impressions thus far is that I like the new start menu, the centered task bar, the new windows snap controls, but pretty much everything else is inconsequential. The new design look isn't bad but I don't find it particularly good.
What's not cool is all the customization options they've stripped. There's no option to ungroup programs in the taskbar, there's no option to enable taskbar labels, there's no options to ungroup networking and volume (which is not a logical group) and the notification center with date / calendar which I've found is often adding extra clicks. I like the idea of having taskbar groups that pull up on a single click but there is zero option for the user to customize this to meet their needs. The lack of customization options for the start menu and it's position is extremely obvious as well, Start11 has vastly more options. No option to show all tray items instead of hiding them behind a menu either, which again is an added click anytime you want to access one of those programs.
Max thumbnail size is 256 x 256 still which means thumbnails are tiny on 4K displays.
Just the typical musical chairs consumers play with Microsoft I guess, figuring out where things are and what was removed.
