Have you considered a backwards airflow?

Let the top and back fans be intake (let's ignore the lack of filters for now) and let the front be the exhaust?

The typical airflow layout isn't good for the gpu since it sucks air through the pcie covers, having weak air flow from the front causes (I think) dead zones around the gpu making it hard to breathe.

At least that's my experience with the S340 Elite.

Also a pcie gpu bracket would be a good purchase; I'm seeing a slight sag on your gpu.
Dunno about airflow. GPU stays cool enough (65C edge, about 88C hotspot on 28C ambient), but its also fairly low power with a very overkill cooler.

yeah, this 6700 is surprisingly heavy. what kinda bracket would you recommend? there's a bit of everything when i search...

Sag don't look too bad, but you can easily help yourself by pulling the card up with the 8-pins from above as opposed to dragging them down from underneath.

You've got a flat floor in the case so you could look at one of those freestanding ones (either with an extendable support, or one of those pole+support types). The L-type brackets that attach to the PCIe screws are a real pain

I've used a McDonalds straw in the past.. its ghetto af but it works :toast:

Edit:

Of course I engineered it a step further with a Fractal HDD grommet, and a nut and bolt so it didn't transfer any GPU fan hum directly to the chassis :pimp:

Can be, yeah. I know because I tried that with an SLI setup.

But I do think they're worth it because it's a more elegant solution than a pillar-type support.

Given that I'm doing a build right now (just taking a break) in an S340 Elite, I can just post photos of the build progress later and see what kind I have.

I wouldn't be surprised if the exact model I have will be gone from Amazon though. Typical cheap chinese product whose vendors come and goes.

Although at first glance there doesn't appear to be any difference from the last photo I posted, other than the fans and the case, everything is different now. Oh, and the MacGyver GPU support added.

I don't like the aesthetics of the included 12VHPWR cable that came with the new power supply but it is what it is.

@Kodehawa If you decide to get one of the little GPU supports, make sure to measure the distance between the bottom of your case and where you want to make contact on the GPU. I had to improvise to make something work in my situation. Available options were either too tall or too short.

We got the FC140 gang together

We've got one in the big leagues with 2 x 140s, one using it as intended with 1 x 140 and 1 x 120, and one naughty boi using 2 x 120s

The grey would go nicely with the T30s when they come out. Will definitely be picking up a few to test, at least as case fans. I just didn't like all the shiny mounting hardware on the OG FC140, that's all.

Once you have daisy-chainable fans, you can't go back......

Are your 120s performing better than the stock fans?

Better than stock TR fans? I'd bet money.
Not better than a Noctua 120mm and 140mm though.

Easily quieter than all the above, however. The A14 really drags Noctua down, need that new 140mm design asap

I like the way those T30s look on yours. I made a comment earlier saying that I didn’t like it, but the more I see it..

A few points about this build
  1. Between my own rig and my sister's, there are enough spare parts to make another one save for the psu.
  2. Before it lives it's life as an htpc, I want to try and play around with overclocking it first just for fun; oc goals are 4 ghz all core, even if it means running it at 1.425 - safe, but utter limit, according to AMD and try to get my ram to clock above 2400MTs.
  3. Given how much of a pain in the ass the build it (and the fact that one of the motherboard screws are locked tight with one of the standoffs) this build is staying like this, for good. The mobo and the case are permanently intertwined.
  4. A cpu upgrade is possibility if a compelling price comes along for an R9 cpu; if it does then I'll never use this cpu cooler again. I'd rather buy another one than to deal with it again.
  5. Gpu upgrades are also a possibility but not actively looking for one. I'd sooner pass down my 3080 Ti to it and buy a new gpu instead.
  6. I will never buy another midtower case whose top can't be taken off like Fractal's cases; being able to do that just makes working with the case so much easier.
  7. Shame that I can't mount the psu to have an internal intake; I don't mind cleaning the psu dust filter - just that it'll be a pain in the ass to get to.
  8. I definitely won't add 3.5 drives internally for all htpc stuff; too much of a hassle, I'd rather buy an external 3.5 drive.
  9. I'm sure it's still good enough to play most modern games; thing is I'm a kb&m guy. So this pc will only see action for games that I care about to play on the couch with a controller.
  10. The build is powerful enough for emulation, so it can be handy for that. And given the controller-centric nature of emulated games, this is perfect for that.
  11. The case is slim enough to fit behind my living room tv; but that's something I'll think about more in detail for another time.
  12. I need a 4k 120hz tv that's isn't an oled lol, then again I'm not sure if my 1080 Ti has the HDMI output for that; guess I'll find out when I could be assed.
Edit: I got the psu for $120 Maple Dollars used; it's $240 new.

The grey would go nicely with the T30s when they come out. Will definitely be picking up a few to test, at least as case fans. I just didn't like all the shiny mounting hardware on the OG FC140, that's all.

How do you feel about Be Quiet's pro fans that are meant to compete with these?

The regular $20 120mm are fine. They fall short of A12x25s which in turn fall short of T30s, but at lower speeds they are quiet in typical Be Quiet style. I don't need any because I already had the triple pack T30s, but I'd take them over the A12x25 if they were more available, nice price too (black A12x25 is priced like T30).

The $32 Pro is too expensive, Be Quiet is out of their minds. No daisy-chain, lower performance, for $2 more than T30. T30 build quality is also borderline indestructible.

Guess it's T30's then when I decide to replace my toy-ish Fractal rgb fans, which I honestly only decided to buy because of daisy chains; figured meddling with rgb wouldn't be so bad.

Jokes on me though because cable management without an rgb hub, along side that most of rgb software that isn't Asrock's or Gigabyte's, is ass.

Still, they go for about about $100-130 Cad. And that's roughly halfway through a 4tb pcie 3 ssd. And I'd sooner get that.

Eh.

Eh.

$100?

The single T30 is usually $45 and 3-pack of T30s is $115, which is exchange rate equivalent to the US price. Anything else is 3rd party scalpers and not worth buying. Just get the regular high speed Silent Wings 4 (BL094) if you want to save some money and not after high speed rad performance.

Im running Lian Li daisy chained in my watercooled build, 8 fans. AL 120 fans. Pretty good static pressure for radiators. Not the best, but they daisy chained which means less cables. Lain Li software is pretty ok

We got the FC140 gang together

We've got one in the big leagues with 2 x 140s, one using it as intended with 1 x 140 and 1 x 120, and one naughty boi using 2 x 120s
Sadly FC140 in black is unobtainium in EU.

Cleaned up my system a bit by removing some unused cables after blowing it out with the air compressor and I added a few 140mm fans. Also put the air filters back in, hopefully that'll keep the dust out.

Build I did for a friend of mine's grandson for gaming (and school)

Pairing it with a 27" Dell G2723HN (1080p, 165 Hz) I think he's going to be a happy 16 yr old! :D
