I think COD is what is missing from my life. I used to play all the time, but stopped when their games went to 80 bucks lol.. maybe I will pick up some warzone. I only game at 60fps so probably not even worth it :D

So until then I have started this.

Started Playing Space Bourne2 and it reminds me of Mass Effect 1 in 3rd person shooter mode and Freelancer in the Space sim mode. It is not as polished as Everspace 2 but a seemingly bigger Game as there is no 3Rd person. It is early access but playable and hit's the Sci fi itch hard with docking at Stations like mini Gundam circles.

60Hz is all I know :D

It seems smooth and fluid to me
To be fair, screens that have 1ms pixel response rates and 144hz+ refresh rates are smooth as warm butter and a joy to behold. But 60hz is still excellent and perfectly acceptable for gaming, even in fast-paced games. This is why 60FPS is the golden standard for everyone doing benchmark reviews. Even @W1zzard still considers 60 the bar to measure up to. Historically, he has been leading the charge in new standards.
all this talk about input lag and all that is painful

Input lag is what everyone has after two matches of quickplay or a few beers, so you could consider that less hz equals more beer. All things in moderation, so at 60 odd beers you should take a little break to prevent screen tear and preserve the fluidity.

What an awesome metrodivania with light callbacks to the soulsborne genre - a strong 9/10 from me!

After this, I'll probably check out Mafia 1 Remastered

@leeamtheone I can recommend Mafia 1 Remastered it's a beautiful looking game, the game play is good too just a bit too different from the original.

The past almost 2 weeks been gaming L.A. Noire never got really into the game as I am now. (I play mostly 1-2 hours and try to do everything correct and get achievements when I can).

My RX 6800 XT is using max 40watt while the game is capped at 30fps so it's a ultra smooth experience.

No points for guessing what game, Pictured here is Noelle, my #1 fave character in the game even though there are many more powerful ones, she kills, she shields and she heals.

Nonsense. The idea that gaming at 60hz will give you a disadvantage is a myth outside of competition circles. Go have fun good sir!
I really don't see a problem with it either. I currently run World of Tanks with 1440p resolution capped at 60 since I need to have V-sync enabled, but everything is smooth. For some reason or other, the game is a little choppy when I disable V-sync and try to use anything higher than 60. There is the possibility that its the drivers since I'm using studio drivers on both cards(kingpin 3090 + rtx A6000) due to using them both for rendering when not gaming. It could also be due to incorrect drivers in windows for the monitor since the control panel only displays a generic monitor(oddly World of Tanks recognizes the proper monitor). I haven't looked into it much since I figured if everything is working with V-sync enabled, no sense in possibly screwing one or more things up trying to get it to work in a game with higher refresh rates & disabled V-sync.

Anyway, I'm currently playing Fantasy General II and enjoy it so far. The thing I like the most about it is you can nearly destroy one or more of your non-hero units, but so long as they survive to the end of the scenario, you're able to replenish them using gold without the unit losing experience/levels. Fantasy General I was more unforgiving in that aspect. I tended to use more heavy infantry, range, and aerial units than anything else and used a few light cavalry to reach more remote locations since there wasn't always a lot of time to explore caves & such for loot & extra hero units.

Yeah, and some of them are all-around way better than a lot of the newer games. Bard's Tale III was great, too. Its too bad they didn't do an actual enhanced edition that updated the graphics beyond what they did with the more recent version you get included with Bard's Tale IV.

Company of heroes looks great, but it can't beat anything that's come out recently. For example, Armored Brigade is beautiful and looks like

1677560907148.png

Actually, yeah. You know what? Maybe Company of Heroes does look really good.

---------

My graphics joke aside, Armored Brigade is the only game that seems to factor in line-of-sight and proper distances. A modern tank can shoot 3000 meters (3km), and Armored Brigade is cold-war era (slightly older than modern, but... M1 Abrams and T72 were definitely around in the 80s, and have surprisingly similar specs to today).

Games like Starcraft, AoE2, and Company of Heroes, all "shorten" the distance of a gun so that the action fits on our screens. Armored Brigade actually tries to simulate battles at "proper" distances, so all the units are tiny, basically impossible to see when you're looking at the whole battlefield. So I do recommend this game, 2d pixel art / graphics adide, because it does seem to be a surprisingly "realistic" take on modern combat.

To me any game looks pretty decent with texture mods. I was playing some PSP games and I just slapped some high resolution textures into them and a lot of upscaling and they suddenly looked pretty good. Obviously you can tell the linitations of the hardware with lighting, shadows and shapes, but seems to me like the main limitation for some games (up to a point, I'd say 2004+) to look "more modern" is just textures.

Matches my experience with modern games, where texture quality is the thing I'd always keep at Ultra.
