yeah I am a big fan of the steel legend series, nice choice!

just make sure you update BIOS to the latest before you do a clean install or set xmp
ASRock tech support told me that because it's a Z790 mobo no BIOS update needed to start with. They do have a new BIOS for it though and I'll likely put that in after I put it together. Everything is coming from Newegg's warehouse in Indiana so it'll be here Wednesday (you know where I am). Already shipped. I may have to get a 6000 series GPU from our mutual friend I bought the CPU from.

I always update to the latest BIOS regardless if it needs or not, never had an issue and it just makes everything more stable imo

update bios, reboot, install windows, install chipset, reboot, install gpu driver, reboot, plug in ethernet cable, run updates for windows, reboot. done. enjoy gaming.

that's how I do it every-time and never had any issues.

No ethernet cable required for that mobo. It has the same WiFi my Z690 versions do and they work fantastic (same speed as wired here (@375 mbps via Spectrum). I download all of the latest mobo drivers beforehand and put them on a USB flash drive to install. After installing the initial Windows updates I use WUB to turn off automatic updates then only install them manually as needed for security updates.

Picked up a RTX3060 today for $220 for my workstation. Out comes the GTX1660 Super and that will go into my daughters gaming pc (she'll be upgrading from a GTX1060). Ive got a cpu upgrade for her machine coming Thursday. Pic is from last year, when I surprised her with it, she has a much larger display now, 48" 4k (she plays at 1080). We both play COD and once she gets a bit better, were going to squad up to take on the world!

I raised my niece cause her parents were not involved in her life, I couldn't convince her to play a single game with me lol

All she will play is Minecraft, you are quite lucky

If my niece is ever open to trying another game I am going to try to get her to try the free level 1-60 in FFXIV and then if she sticks with it buy it/pay the sub.

Get her Terraria :)

its not so much about the game for her, when she plays Minecraft she is playing with her friends from school mic'd up and such. I just wish they would as a group, try something else besides Minecraft 24/7, I honestly never got the appeal of Minecraft, but eh I guess I am old and gray haired these days

Busy week. Bought this nearly immaculate G3 B&W because it had been sitting in the store for weeks staring at me. Rev. 2 board with the functional IDE controller, 400MHz PPC750 already overclocked to 500MHz, and now by sheer luck the original Radeon 7000 AND 9200 upgrade GPUs showed up at a different local store within a few days. My 256MB SDRAM modules don't play nice with it but I did get it upgraded to 512MB for the meantime. Might set a search for a G4 ZIF upgrade chip just to see if anything pops up, would be quite nice to have both G3 and G4 CPUs as options to run it with.

This is from awhile back but I may as well post about it; RTX 3080 Ti blower from Tyan originally used in cloud gaming servers. It's not quiet but it's also not ear shattering. About on par with what was considered acceptable for fan noise about a decade ago with the likes of the GTX 480/HD 6970. The board is limited to 350W exactly and as such the core doesn't turbo beyond about 1850MHz, so performance is more in line with a decently clocked RTX 3080 than it is with any RTX 3080 Ti out there. Temps level off at almost exactly 80C with the fan at 30%, or 2400RPM.

It's a 2022 ROG Zephyrus G14 with an R9-6900HS, 16GB DDR5-4800, 1TB WD SN735, and an RX 6700S.

I got it for $1005 before tax.
I just got the same for $1100 new. I was about to spend for a Framework as my old laptop is at the end of its road, but for just a bit more I get something to game on.. heck yeah!
Haven't stressed it yet, been downloading Fallen Order and Forza 3 with a t-mobile hotspot, so it might be a while till i can actually use it. Considering my tiny apartment, it might even replace my desktop as my daily driver (Amd 5600x and RX 6600).

Also thank you for the info on the replacement for Armoury Crate. Hate all the bloat that it comes with, smh.

I was definitely considering a Framework as I love what the company stands for (repairability and upgradability), but I really wanted to try out Ryzen 6000-series (which Framework still doesn't have).

I've heard all of the hype around the G14, and after checking one out that was on display down in Phoenix, my interest was piqued. And now that I've messed with the configurable stuff this laptop has (including the beta BIOS that enables USB 4 support, which works with my Razer Core eGPU!), I really like it.

I'm also considering trying it as my summer PC, as it gets freaking hot around here.

Currently, my biggest complaint with this laptop is the MediaTek wireless card. The experience with WiFi has ranged from okay to mediocre, but the Bluetooth experience has been terrible. I'll probably pick up an Intel AX210 at some point and upgrade to that. Battery drain in sleep mode is also not great (about 0.5% per hour), but at least it doesn't randomly run the fans and get really hot while in "sleep" mode like my HP ENVY liked to do.

The temp monitor on the side is a nice touch. What's the RPM's at load on that thing? 2400 RPM at load wouldn't be bad at all, but if that's the idle RPM's goodbye hearing it was nice knowing you!

Hey buddy,

Yeah, I'll check it out. Prices are starting to mellow a bit here (down under) and I'm looking into either a 4080 or 90 hopefully into the not-too-distant future. I've never purchased a white GPU yet.. ;)

Have been thinking about white or silver/black. The MSI Ventus has caught my eye. Can't find a review of one though. Apparently, they are one of the smaller cards as well. Also, the Zotac's could be on my hit list.

My guess is a motherboard. ;)

Or graphics card but I would be curious because the user already got a RX 7900 XTX and a sick 5800X3D but I guess it's AM5 upgrade then.

Yep you got it.i Asus X670E E Strix. Just finished updating the BIOS to the latest for support for. Only issue is that my RAM is coming from the US through Newegg so it might not be here until Friday.

The timing is amazing hahah, HOF is available here but $$$$

Yeah, ouch..

Looking at a 4080 under 2k AUD or a 4090 under 3.

I personally think the 4080 is the way to go here. 4090's cost 50% more here for only 30-35% more performance pending game.

Was even looking into the 4070Ti but found it's not a big enough upgrade over the 6800XT I have.

I'm also liking the better thermals and power consumption from the 4080.

Sure, if I can find a 4090 for around 2.5K give or take then that will be that : )
