I formatted and installed a fresh Windows .. I'm too old to even try those fancy new "reset" methods and waste more time if they don't work properly t.t
I fail to comprehend how Windows could "reset" itself properly from a 100 MB reset partition (or is it the 512 MB one?) when the install media is around 5 GB. At least I'm not alone. :)

In theory just delete everything that is user-changeable, they designed the OS, so they should know ;)

This is the way.

With all my saves being on Steam Cloud these days, plus I backup everything to offline hard drive, and nvme drive + fiber optic internet, my clean installs take about 30 minutes to 1 hour, I do one every 6 months with the latest drivers, just for the heck of it.

In other news, this question is for everyone not just W1zz:

x3d cache on starcraft 2 sees massive gains both in max and min. so my question is were all Blizzard games of this time built on the same engine? So should I see the same gains on say Diablo 3?

Edit: for context no one is benchmarking Diablo 3, so I have no idea, but some places still benchmark SC2, that's how I know.

FYI all Microcenter's have 25 plus in stock currently. Plenty of stock to feed the hype train

Online orders are probably mostly going to be scalped on ebay.

In Canada Newegg has the chip for $649 problem with that is that the 7900 is $80 cheaper at $579.

Saw that, actually forgot that Canada Computers had any. They are all gone now though (same with Memory Express). I bet they will be $629 next week. I want the 5800X3D to come dome down to $299 but AMD keeps it at $439. With this chip they really have the best of both worlds. It's like AMD did checkmate with the Knight when everyone was focused on the King lol. I still feel that in some scenarios my 7900X3D is faster though. We will see as the Youtubers run their benchmarks. Regardless they pretty much have gaming sewn up. It is absolutely insane that you could buy a 600 Watt PSU and be fine with a 5800X3D or 7800X3D and run a 6800XT no problem. There is no way you could do that with a 13900K and 4080. I know the 6800XT has a 750W recommendation but they literally pull a maximum of 255 Watts if you have the newest drivers.

the 7900x fell to $429 in the states at the brick and morter store called Microcenter. FYI.
That is the exact conversion price on Newegg.

Let them scalp. If AMD couldn't sell the initial 7900x3d even at $550 with $50 price drop since last week. People aren't going to pay anything north of MSRP for the 7800-x3d. If we are looking at Ebay fees at 15% what will they have to charge to even make something? Add taxes and ebay fees they would have to sell it at $570 just to break even.

Likely due to dual 6 core CCDs not being very desirable I'm kinda surprised it exists to begin with.

I'd prefer the 7800X3D or 7950X3D personally over it.

It's true but then it would be scalped higher than the i9 13900K pricing. Luckily the market conditions aren't favorable towards scalpers like 2 years ago. There is plenty of competitive stock, more budget conscious consumer due to recession. Also with a little bit of patience I'm pretty sure they will be restocked sooner rather than later.

I don't think Memory Express had any launch stock (I've been checking), and Canada Computers just started listing some inventory the last couple hours.

7900X3D should've had two V-Cache chiplets, instead of one. There might've been a weird preference for it if there was, but still not the same as either the 7800 or 7950 X3D. Perhaps we'll see this in the future. 7920X3D or something along those lines. 7900XX3D 7900X3DX3D 7902X3D. Would be a way to save this lineup and the 6c cache chips I'm sure they're sitting on.

I've checked what that ppkg does - the stuff adjusts in context of x3d dual-ccd processors is:

  • gamemode and sustainedperf profiles under Balanced scheme
  • gamemode and sustainedperf profiles under BetterBatteryLifeOverlay overlay
  • gamemode and sustainedperf profiles under MaxPerformanceOverlay overlay
CPMinCores (they set it to 50%) and CPConcurrency (this one to 67%) are changed for AC and DC.
High Performance scheme is not touched in context of those options - it should work fine w/o any parking.

There is a bunch of other stuff this provisioning bunch of settings tinkers with depending on what is detected (from the most to least generic classification). Nothing particularly complicated, but yea - I don't see anything that would suggest AMD ever cared about reverting those during uninstallation (unless windows provides some mechanism on its own, but apparently not - the documentation claims power registry settings are revertible, so maybe AMD should care more, IDK).

People can fix this mess with powercfg.exe modifying related profiles under topmost scheme and overlay.

I'd really like to see more investigation into this. There's no fundamental reason the 7950x3d should be slower than the 7800x3d, especially as much slower (in games) as this review is showing. Something very strange is going on.
Could be that techpowerup, just like Linus tech tips, got an fault 7950X3D, or a very good 7800X3D?

My guess is that whenever the 7950X3D is slower, the game is meandering over to CCD1 OR stuff from CCD1 is getting pushed onto CCD0 momentarily causing contention due to AMDs botched Thread Director trying to park all the freq cores.

Best case scenario is still to use processlasso and prefer freq, then manually assign games to CCD0.

My other guess is this might have something to do with CPPC. Windows does really weird stuff with preferring certain cores over others, including overloading the best cores and not using the slowest, such as in my problem above... this is completely aside from freq/cache preference. You cant turn off CPPC anymore, so you can't even test this (at least on my board).

Love the gaming performance and efficiency, this is an epic CPU. Not enough to sway me to upgrade from a 5800X3D at 4k though, but excellent nonetheless and AMD are onto a winning formula, for now. Well done.

They had to AMD the launch up somehow though, the long ass boot times and core parking issues... Launches would go so much smoother without random issues like that, especially as other reviewers might not have caught the issue and applied the lengthy workaround. The parking may not be an issue for buyers as most would fresh install for a new system anyway, but it mutes the overall performance enough to have some publications reviews seem unimpressive.

Wizard something is wrong with your Intel power consumption results :kookoo:
In gaming you have results at least 30W higher than usual, and in idle is widely known Intel CPU are more efficient than AMD’s.
My 13900K goes as low as 9W.

13900K results are far from what I’m getting on my 13900K. In CP2077 is at least 40/50W less than that. I don’t know what‘s going on on their CPU.
7800X3D is insanely efficient, but that’s just too much
