I wish I had a badge that says "it's a good product, but the pricing is too high". Any ideas?
Yes, "Bad Value". It's concise and to the point.

Dead on Arrival, get yourself a 6700XT, 3060ti or 6800
I'd say get the 6750XT over the 6700 XT. Also the 3060 ti is the same price as the 4060 ti and the 6800 is $500 still.

None of the previous gen 30 series or 6000 series card in the same performance bracket put up much heat and cooling solutions have gotten so good that it's easier to point out bad ones that occasionally pop up. In fact cooling solutions this gen have been overbuilt adding cost.

As for the power - yes it consumes less power but that only matters for people who game hours each day. Going by the price and efficiency the 4060 Ti does not make up for that in the long run unless you game for hours each day. Basically it would have to save you $70 worth of electricity to be worth it. That would take a long time achieve unless you live in a area where electricity cost is super high.

DLSS 3 is worse the lower the card itself performs. It's best at high native framerates.
RT at 1080p on 128bit 8GB card is nothing to write home about.

Also i have a bone to pick with this card being 1080p targeted.
1440p 144Hz IPS monitors can be had from 255€ new. 400€ new for 240Hz even. Yet this card will cost 440€+ in EU and is capable primarily only for 1080p. Makes no sense. Makes even less sense in 2023 to spend 400+ on a 8GB card that already struggles at 1080p occasionally.
20% is a big gap in this price class.
This. You cannot market a card as "1080p targeted" and expect to sell it for 400 bucks.

Actually the "Highly" part is just there to fill the empty space, but I had no better idea at the time and still have no better idea
"Close, but no cigar" crosses the mind.
DLSS3 Increases latency so for it to be useful to me you have to already be in the 70-90fps range unless Nvidia somehow finds a way to overcome this. Also at lower fps the artifacts are way more noticeable.
I don't play competitively (I barely game at all, actually, but that's another story), latency would be a non-issue for me.

But it has 16 GB VRAM and it isn't targeted for 1080p gaming.

*shakes hands* that works for me. Any ideas which game to test?
Not really. I'll wait and see other reviews cause I've only read yours so far. Even if I lose it would be interesting to see how they compare.

One scenario that I'd like to see is how they compare when running on a PCI-E 3.0 system. This is a very realistic scenario if people with an older System with an i7 9700 class CPU or an AMD system with an older motherboard and a Ryzen 3***/5*** CPU decide to upgrade their GPU. I'm sure that there will be an upset there.

For the vast majority of the market this is a non-issue, I wish I had the time to test it, but 7 more GPU reviews from me this week, and I'm leaving for Computex on Sunday, and there's like 2 or 3 more cards en-route.

Even if I lose it would be interesting to see how they compare.
That's exactly how I felt when I took the bet, but I have written one or two GPU reviews previously, so I'm trusting my educated guess ;)

6700 XT class performance 2 years after 6700 XT but with 4GB less VRAM*? What a joke. And I highly doubt that this will go with its MSRP, we know Nvidia these days.

* and I know that the 16GB model comes later.

You still shouldn't have to turn textures down at 1080p if you spend this much money on a graphics card. "Prices have changed" is not an argument when you can have a 12 GB 6700 XT for a similar price, or a 16 GB 6800 for a little bit more.

Let's take the 3070 for a 4060ti shall we?

Now turn on RT and see what happens to your mentioned cards.

Anyways, as you can see there is no need to turn down settings on the latest VRAM hog games of late on an 8GB card @ 1080p.

In all honesty im really not sure who is going to buy this card. Going to be a tough sell.

Let's see what pricing and performance the Radeon 7600 can do with its 8GB.

Prices have definitely changed for this generation. You can't deny that. What's going to happen next gen?

The first GPU in the new lineup that did not have a price increase over the previous generation, and the performance jump is a measly 8-10%, absolute mediocre card
The increase came in the form of nomiclature -- 4060 was "increased" to 4060Ti.

In Hogwarts and TLOU the 4060Ti is slower or equal to the 3060Ti because of memory bandwidth. It performs nothing like the 3070. Also the lows are what show up the issues with VRAM.

7600 should end up between 6650XT and 6700XT. If sold at close to $250 it would be the best MSRP priced GPU in many years.
2 years ago the 8 GB VRAM didn't limit you to 1080p gaming, and it's not like this resolution gained popularity. Even at 1080p, 8GB VRAM can be a hard bottleneck. You're paying for a GPU obsolete on arrival, so it needs to be very cheap.

All I know is that I'll vote with my wallet and not buy or recommend any card that isn't worth its price, and that includes the entire 30 and 40-series so far.

A better idea would be to remove the reward system.
Just keep the summary it's enough, plus the review is among the best out there so people can use the results to check performance in their games and get a good idea to which GPU to buy.

You are wrong, it's a 4050, it's a 1/4 of full Lovelace.
1/4 of full chip always is a x50 gpu.

vram is not the problem, they are ok. The gpu work well, it's a good gpu with a good performance. A good 4050 (1/4 of full chip Lovelace with a fake name) that outperform the previous 3060Ti as is usual.
All is OK, except the name. It's a "4050" for only $400. Buy it now!!

@W1zzard the Relative Minimum FPS differences for the 6700 XT in both the Average and the Minimums are wrong by a couple of percent, in the direction that favors the 4060 Ti of course. The very comparison that some buyers might choose to compare these cards with.

This is easiest to see in 1080p the Relative Minimum FPS graph where the 3060 Ti and the 6700 XT both are getting about 100 FPS and are separated by >3 FPS but only by 1%. That is not a rounding error. I did not check what other numbers are off in the %age graphs but I hope this is not a systemic problem.

Its literally what happens in MS flight simulator, witcher 3 with RT, plague tale etc. I even remember NV showcasing it in flight sim with 150+ fps (which is way above any existing CPU limit)

Thank you for the thorough review @W1zzard .

Based on what's been said by many, I believe a no badge would've been appropriate here, considering the "No Award" description itself.

This product is OK for what it is, but unfortunately it's a very bad value proposition. A fool's hope would be the price goes down due to low demand.

Why are you even looking into this review if you're after longevity from an 8GB card???

Price's have clearly changed lately. Keep up with the times.

In case you didn't know, both Nvidia and AMD are struggling to sell graphics cards.

People aren't buying these new cards at their release prices.

Demand for GPUs has clearly changed. You need to keep up with the times.

I wish I had a badge that says "it's a good product, but the pricing is too high". Any ideas?
You don't need to give away badges.
Especially not for a new $400 graphics card that places like this in cost-per-frame:

0_.jpg

And this isn't even considering the terrible longevity of the product.

The 4060ti is even slower than the 3070. That's quite embarassing.
Only the power consumption is quite impressive. 152W vs. 232W is a real statement.

@W1zzard any chance to also include power consumption with 144Hz & 165Hz for desktop, video playback, gaming & multi monitor setup in the power consumption graphics?
Since some cards (esp. AMD's 7000 Series) got massive power consumption / downclock problems in these scenarios, it would be really informative for energy bill sensitive customers.

Great review as always W1zzard! - but giving this card a highly recommended award just turned that award into a meme. Don't cave to NV, I know they pay bills but this card doesn't deserve this award. No matter how much mental gymnastics one does.

People on reddit are already talking trash about TPU and these awards... journalistic integrity > NV
