One last upgrade for the AM4 platform.
My previous B450 board was a bit tight in the pci-e connectivity department... so I decided to get X570. I found Asus Prime X570-P for a good price... and here it is. It seems this board has no resource sharing - all pci-e and M.2 slots and even sata ports can be used simultaneously. :D Which is perfect for my crowded PC :) There is RTX 3080, Datapath capture card, 2.5 Gbit LAN and audio card in the pci-e slots. One NVME SSD... and I still have one M.2 and one pcie x1 available.

This is stille one of the layouts I find useful to this day there you actually have a PCI-E x1 above the x16 slot for a audio, network or something that uses this because it's so handy and don't restrict airflow.

What do you have in the second PCI-Ex16 slot? That's a airflow restrictor couldn't it fit in the PCI-E x1 slot?

Datapath capture card if you bothered to read the post it does say what they have in the PCIe slots I'm assuming it may be a PCIe x4 card so wont fit a x1 slot

Treated myself to an early birthday present, a set of open back headphones I've been quietely eyeing off for over 2 years now.

Focal Clear. $2200 AUD MSRP, on special for $799 AUD for B stock, and I'm yet to find a single sign of either use or damage to literally anything including packaging. Bargain.

Worth. Every. Penny. If you are on the fence about headphones like this, or anywhere in this competitive ~$1500 USD price bracket (although often more like $900-1200 USD for this and competitors), and you can afford it - do it.

I'm in musical heaven right now.

After (too) much internal debate I decided my current cpu cooler and satisfaction with overall case airflow outweighed a small drop in timings. 4x8GB should resolve experiencing some typical signs of low memory on games with large maps.

That phillips display is in.
Some serious build quality issues that dont affect actual use, but still

The power cord fits, but jesus... how bad is the soldering internally for it to be that twisted?

The marks here are all reflections, really hard to photograph - but the bottom bezel is loose and hanging out about a centimeter from the display
1690089376422.png

The display/panel itself is amazing. It's damned close to how fluid OLED displays can feel.
1690089422088.png

60Hz to 144Hz is one part of it, but not all - it feels a lot more than twice as fast, and with no ghosting, overhshoot or smearing (which even some oleds have issues with) the clarity is through the roof in high speed movement.

Do also want something like that, yet I don't really need 4K, I want PANEL SPEED. 1080p360Hz (given it works as intended) will be perfect.

This 144Hz display is faster than the samsung 240hz for the reasons i mentioned above - no smearing, overshoot or delay.

Don't fall for marketing where they discuss the fastest colour/shade only, and forget the rest

1690095157861.png

Heres the corsair display with equal specs on paper, with far, far worse latencys and much more smearing
1690095280549.png

And how it competes - note that its faster than the FI32Q X, a 270Hz 1440p display
1690095175481.png

They test a phillips 34" ultrawide OLED (they all use the same panel, it's basically cutoffs from a ~40" OLED TV that failed)
Philips Evnia 34M2C8600 Review (QD-OLED Ultrawide) | KitGuru

Notice how the average times are indeed faster - getting around 2ms vs the 4ms of this IPS panel... but look at the overshoot, the smearing.
The "Average error" rate is greater than double that of the IPS panels
The "visual response rating" of 88.43 on the OLED vs the 89.97 on the 32" IPS, both of which shit on corsairs 85.02
1690095431641.png

TL;DR: A display fast in one set of colours/brightness but slow in another looks like ass, like my VA panels and magenta on black.

That's why I put the "if works as intended." I know for the fact the marketed numbers don't mean shit. I want real 360 Hz with respecting GtG and other parametres, not the bloated one.

That's why I put the "if works as intended." I know for the fact the marketed numbers don't mean shit. I want real 360 Hz with respecting GtG and other parametres, not the bloated one.
which so far doesnt exist, afaik.

The "fast" samsungs that everyone raves about in reviews scream paid reviews, even places like Rtings.
'Best gaming display! so fast! we love it!'
Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 S32BG85 Review - RTINGS.com

Remember that my 144Hz was averaging 4ms?
Also Rtings on the G8 neo at 240Hz:
1690172799214.png

That's a 240Hz display that should be <4.16ms, but nope... it's in the 6.6-12.4ms range.
with 55.1% overshoot, known as smearing/ghosting.
dark grey at 60.9% overshoot should be an immediate fail and told to bin the unit and try again.

ANYTHING with 'grey' mixed in smears like all hell, which means darker versions of every colour stay on screen longer than lighter colours and you get issues with scrolling text, or even some games (7 days 2 die has been giving me issues with this on the new update, as did borderlands 1 goty)

It's goddamn trash, but somehow it's praised as amazing awesome tech?

The first is an HP EliteDesk 800 G1. It has an I5-4570S, 8GB of DDR3-1600(soon to be upgraded to 16GB of 1866) and a Samsung 960GB MLC based SSD.

This little system would seem to be nothing special but has a bit of secret-sauce. All of it's parts are 100% AndroidX86 compatible(it will be running a version of AndroidX86), it's powerful enough to run all of the emulation software I want to run and it's small enough to fit into a cubby-hole space under the TV it's intended to serve. I might upgrade the i5 to an i7 as an i7-4770S is still a solid upgrade in performance. I'll give it some testing to see if that is needed.

The rest of my latest purchases, which will be detailed over in the Nostalgia thread(https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/tpus-nostalgic-hardware-club.108251/page-687) is not at all new as much as it's new to me. Behold, I give you the Super Famicom by Nintendo.

I have the smaller version of that system as my games server, lex. The stock cooler is hilarious because you can shave 15c off the temps by flipping the fan over.

Ah yes, the micro version. I was considering one but wanted the more powerful CPU range available to the this larger model. Needed the extra performance for some advanced emulation. Also wanted the DVD drive for watching movies when running Windows. This system has an MSATA port on the motherbaord and I'm going to install an MSATA SSD into it for AndroidX86 and install Windows 7 on the 2.5" SATA SSD for dual booting using the F12 boot menu option.

That sounds like a fun story!

Good times ahead!
oooohhh lovely all of them, i quite like HP Compaq Elite, since i am running one with a i7-3770 as htpc atm, and wow for the Super Famicom, i need to find one (and a Famicom or their EU equivalent NES and SNES) since i got myself a long time ago 2 collector re-edition of Holy Diver (NES) and R-Type III/Super R-Type (SNES) both numbered limited edition from Retrobit (Holy Diver white cartridge even more limited  1000 pces only ) i got my SNES in 91 and the NES in 86 (the EU SNES has the exact same design as the Super Famicom, opposed to the US boxy shaped SNES )

me, well more bike stuff ...

although that one would come in handy not only for bike, since i noticed that the screw were T25 and i only have it in my iFIXIT kit (and that small screwdriver isn't gonna cut it )
20230725_103521.jpg20230725_103542.jpg
should have taken a dynamometric one ... but the price is setting me off ... oh well, i am not too bad at tightening screw precisely ...

and i did a damn awesome job, if i might say so...
20230725_103729.jpg20230725_103707.jpg
lighter better and good looking, worth every penny

then my OCD kicks in, when i see that:
20230725_103421.jpg

well the straight grip did not feel quite comfy ... thus why not:
20230725_103355.jpg20230725_103345.jpg

Ergon GE1 Evo Factory, made in Germany? eh? ... nice (plus the packaging is quite interesting and allow my to store the old handle on it  ) oil slick mush green? well it goes with the green accent of the bike ... (not the oil slick tho ... but that's only the aluminum tightening ring )

NEXT! i promise it will be computer tech related and not bike tech

That phillips display is in.
Some serious build quality issues that dont affect actual use, but still

The power cord fits, but jesus... how bad is the soldering internally for it to be that twisted?
View attachment 305942

The marks here are all reflections, really hard to photograph - but the bottom bezel is loose and hanging out about a centimeter from the display
View attachment 305943

The display/panel itself is amazing. It's damned close to how fluid OLED displays can feel.
View attachment 305944

60Hz to 144Hz is one part of it, but not all - it feels a lot more than twice as fast, and with no ghosting, overhshoot or smearing (which even some oleds have issues with) the clarity is through the roof in high speed movement.
You're aware that Philips don't make these right?
They licensed the monitor stuff to MMD which is turn is owned by TP Vision which is owned by TPV Technology out of Hong Kong, although Philips apparently owns a 30 percent stake in the company. TPV also own AOC and some other brands. TPV Technology is in turn owned by China Electronics Corporation and Mitsui amonst its biggest shareholders.

Still shitty for a more premium 4K display, as that's a lot more expensive than my Acer, yet it had none of those issues.
Personally, I would've sent that back over the sagging bezel bit, as that's just not acceptable.

Ended up getting this for my laptop as it only has WiFi.

i am impressed with J5create brand, cheap and reliable so far ... i have a wall charger and a "Whormhole" USB A to A cable (which act as a transfer/KVM cable)

also a 2.5g USB-C adapter, nice!
