Starfield discussion thread

Oh this is 100% Creation, it reeks of Creation and I make it my business to know that... but it sure has seen some upgrades since Fallout 76. Major ones at that.

Creation Engine but now DX12 native and not Creation Engine (DX9_3+DX10_1+DX11_2=DX12_meh)

Did it occur to you that you are the only one buying them LOL

Wish my free StarField from the 7900xtx should show up. Any day now.
You should have gotten the prem, it shows up today.

It's definitely not Fallout levels of wtf on the cpu side at least.

Correct, they're both quite close. The GTX 1070 Ti only exists because of the Vega 56 dominating the niche between the 1070 and 1080. In an ideal scenario the GTX 1070 Ti is the faster card. But I'm using a fairly spicy Vega 56 that hits a bit harder. I've also got a SATAII SSD to test just to see if that fits their requirements for an SSD still, or if it'll be too slow.

I tried adding the A770 to that list, didn't change anything. I also dumped a D3D12Core.dll from July into the D3D12 folder, and it presents this error:

I used the speedway DLLs and got the same message, I am starting to think this a game and driver api issue (for features). Since even with DLLs that support arc it still poops out an error.

FWIW I also tried compatibility modes and forcing the game to use the "low" configuration. I haven't seen so much as a splash screen.

Fallout 4 had game crashing bugs before starting the game, starfield no crashes so far, 1hr in.

To be fair.

Well if you make it through, here's what awaits you.

Wouldn't be a Bethesda game without at least one ridiculous bug assuming this is on them and not intel.

I'll have to wait. my 4090 is on my kitchen table and im too stubborn to reinstall it now. Im gonna hate play starfield because of this, and because im petty and not above doing things out of spite.

5775C + Vega 56 + SATAII SSD has loaded the game so far. But it is still stuttering a bit. ~86 FPS with massive dips down to 10 FPS. VSync helps a tiny bit but it can't dampen those big spikes. I'll get OCAT running at some point and grab a few minutes of time into a graph.

(I should add that's with 1440P Native res - 50% render res - FSR2 - All settings Low)

Will do you a writeup in a separate thread or something? That is genuinely useful stuff.

Stay on topic please guys :)

The similarity between the fallout games and starfield is not that huge. Lots of similar things.

It seems to have brought back many good mechanics from Oblivion, I'm seriously enjoying this

The maps are huge, I'm still on the 1st mission, getting to the pirate capt

How far from Morrowind will it be? The question I ask ever since.
Lightyears away obviously

Same here, still playing BG3 during weekends.

Seriously I'm so glad I bought a 7900XT. It falls royally above 60 (min) FPS almost everywhere I look in recent titles. And that's not common it seems anymore. Damn

Also, beating a 1200 dollar card feels pretty neat, and that's rapidly starting to look like a common thing as new stuff comes out.

Starting playing it about a hour ago. Its basically Mass Effect meets Skyrim - Story and all. Besides some clunky menus, it a good game so far. I call it Skyrim in space.
Serious hype over here but I shall resist :banghead:

This site manages to be worse than UserBenchmark, it's astounding
I'm also skeptical even before on how they can bench so many hardware configs so fast

92 FPS indoors, 75 FPS outdoors. Things smooth out the longer I play, but those gigantic frame spikes still happen on loading zones. Still, for being a wholly unsupported configuration the game DOES run, and it runs decently. I expected much worse on day one, especially after discovering that Intel Arc simply didn't work at all.

These captures were 5 each for indoors/in combat and then running around Kreet exploring the wastes.

Vega 56 Config.PNG1693556939330.png1693556637331.png1693556700685.png1693556872985.png

Not exactly easily digestible data, but I want to move on to tweaking this to get visual quality more balanced. The game has some unsavory visuals at low detail, let's say. Clearly it can get better with this config.

After that, maybe I should step it down to even lower tier hardware. Figure out where the breaking point is for "Low Detail" Starfield.
