The guys over at dodi have claim to cracked the game. I dont know if its true or not. Well that was fast, -5 days until cracked.

What could this mean for starfield, I'm sure alot of people will download it so lots of missed profits for Bethesda.

As economic uncertainty grows piracy becomes more alluring, sure. But I'm also guessing the game will sell like hotcakes. Skyrim and Fallout 4 were heavily pirated and that didn't stop at least Skyrim from being one of the most succesful games every made.

I stopped pirating games once I started earning a stable income. DRM sucks and "AAA" titles are overpriced, but that doesn't justify theft; if you really want to play the game on launch day, do the right thing and pony up the launch-day price. Otherwise, have some patience and wait for a sale, or just a few years until discounts start to come in - as a bonus, by that time all of the most game-breaking bugs will have been patched (especially important for Bethsoft games).

If it makes you feel better to buy games good for you, but I don't think calling others thieves helps anyone.

DRM and stupid pricing are good reasons for some people to not pay for the game.

Plus I don't believe piracy hurts gaming, the opposite I would say, more people get to know the game providing free marketing, leading to more sales.

It's not theft, but it's still criminal. If inflation is accounted for games are not much more expensive, in fact Starfield has a nearly identical price as Skyrim had ($49.99). It doesn't matter if it hurts anyone, if it's criminal it's criminal.

These days, compared to 3 years ago, I'm spending easily $4k more a year when it comes to fueling up my vehicle and paying for groceries. This doesn't mean that I'm going out to pirate something, but this does mean that I'm not going out to buy other things that I may have purchased several years ago when I had more free income to be used. I'm interested in Starfield, but I haven't been a fan of TES series since Morrowind - Oblivion was awful and Skyrim was just slightly better, but not better enough to hold my interest. I went back and played Morrowind over Oblivion and Skyrim.

I'm not sure how Starfield will fair, if it'll be like an Oblivion/Skyrim game, but in space or if it'll be better. This is one of those games that I may very well need to actually delve into reviews or at the very least gameplay footage to find out if it may be something I would like to play. My disposable income isn't what it was due to outrageous inflation and price gouging over the past 3 years, so I have to be very mindful of what I can afford to spend my money on.

Folks that pirate, they have their reasons and most of them probably wouldn't do it any differently.

Indeed it's a legal thing and depends on each country's legal system, thus has nothing to do with morals, as morality varies from people to people.

I loved Oblivion but didn't really cared for Skyrim, Morrowind haven't tried was into other stuff back then. I might try Starfield it's part of Game Pass anyways.

I would not download this game, neither paid nor free. Because it would cost me a hefty price for a new computer to be able to play it without it being a slideshow.

When I learned (decades ago) that most pirated games are littered with malware I stopped downloading them.

Acquiring others' IP without proper compensation is a criminal offense. How would you call people that do it?
DRM and stupid pricing are good reasons for some people to not pay for the game.
Of course. Nobody holds a gun to your head to buy.

What you believe is irrelevant. What matters is what the law says. At least in the more civilized countries it does. Then again, your avatar is the flag of a country that stole everything from its citizens (i.e. state owned everything).

Most people downloading a cracked version now, would not have bought the game at launch anyway. Plain and simple.

Do I think DRM is pointless as well? Yep. Research have shown that hiding your game behind DRM mostly harm your actual customers, and selling your game without DRM (Cyberpunk 2077 anyone?) does not hurt your bottomline much. The darn DRM probably cost more to implement in most cases...

You also could think the other way, imagine you have a new game that's very popular, but you see they copied everywhere and you have no income... Would you like that? No none would like that. It's your job, just trying to get food on the table for you and your family.

Nah, it means pretty much nothing. They'd probably sell even more if it were DRM free.

A pirate is not going to pay for your game either way, 9 times out of 10. It's usually not really a lost sale. It's a mirage of one.

I'm staunchly antipiracy as a former software dev myself but this is just reality.

I don't see a point of pirating a game.
If you have a decent to high end gaming pc, then you have no excuse because you afford to buy the games.

If you don't, then you have to wait anyway for the pc upgrade or for the game price to lower.
Even the best AAA title prices are low enough after a couple of months.

The last time I downloaded a game from torrent etc. was in 2003. The Sim City 4.
After Steam was launched, I never went back again.

Well its better to find out if your PC can even play the game before you buy it here in canada starfield cost 90 dollars thats alot of money for any game these days. If its a good game people will buy it cause these days you need updates to optimize the game. Im not saying pirate the game but If you wanna test if it runs on your PC before you buy it im not against that. The days of pirating games has pretty much ended just cause games require constant updates... AKA I wish there were more demos like the old days. Back when gaming was actually good games didnt need updated they released games that were tested and a finished product. Then came EA games like pretty much every single AAA game that has come out in the last 10 years.

i often "pirate" a game because there is no demo and day one "journalist" reviews are at best awfully misleading advertising.
i download a cracked version, test it (like baldurs gate 3) played it for an hour, deleted it and bought it + the deluxe pack on steam. i have to buy the product. not just for legal reasons but i am not an asshole. :D

Yeah I will admit that sometimes I do pirate games for this very reason, just to 'demo' them if possible. 'almost no one benches using 21:9 resolutions especially with mine so I also check out the UW support in games'
Ever since I make my own money I tend to buy the games I'm actually interested in playing for real, chances are if I pirate a game to try out and don't like it I wouldn't buy it anyway and I will end up deleting the pirated version too.
Pirated AAA games are kind of meh anyway cause of the missing updates, day 1 cracked versions are barely working as a demo nowadays.

This also depends on where you are from/mindset of the ppl you grew up with.
Where I'm from pirating games was a completely normal thing back in my younger days, we were trading pirated games on cds/dvds like its a normal thing.
When I was in my younger high school years thats when I've started realizing that this aint exactly normal and since Half Life 2 was around the corner I've decided to buy it on the launch day for full price.

Literally all of my friends thought that I'm crazy and stupid for doing that including my brother who still thinks that till this day when I buy new games. 'if he can download something then hes not paying for it thats for sure'

Luckily I have gamepass atm so thats where I will try out Starfield.:)

I grew up pretty poor so I bought a console dreamcast and downloaded everygame that came out but as I gotten older I pay for every single game. Also its impossible to keep pirated games cause of all the required updates to "fix" the game etc....Now I have no issues to buy games since I feel like i need to give back for all the years that I didnt pay for games. Now I just buy games play for less then an hour and quit playing it...

Still wont pirate it myself. Not because it's wrong. Because I already have a back log. As for pirating my stance is I'm for it. That's how I fell in love with 7 days to die and bought it afterwards to support the Fun Pimps.
