the optimision fixes on nexus help quiet a bit

but the more I play the more I see bethesdas shit tier programing skill at work

the voice acting makes me want to uninstall its so bad I think AI could do a better job

if you aren't having fun you need to uninstall it, everyone has different tastes and enjoyments that vary in life and change, maybe there will be some voice mods in 6 months or a year from now and you can return to this game properly.

a bit disheartening for sure, but these are things i won't be doing or worrying about in Starfield anyway, in fact i would have never noticed this if you had not pointed it out just now, because thats not why I am playing this game

.... I don't think you can judge this game by the first two hours but I also don't think it is worth $70. Wait for a sale and buy it when its like $50.
Been playing games for about 30 years now. When I was younger, I would play anything to the end. Now if it doesn't grab me within a few hours I have dozens of other AAA titles to pick from and hundreds of indie titles in my backlog.

I have that sci-fi itch going on right now but this isn't it. Came free with a AMD card, so no loss for me.

Well I think I finally found the limits of my 1080ti's probably a combo of that and an older high core count CPU.

2990WX just running stock boost, 64GB quad channel and it can't keep the GPU pushed up to TDP limits running the game.

4k@50%FSR runs 30-60FPS all medium settings minus the ones I just don't care for. Fun game so far has some hiccups, crash free however.

Well it's surely sent a message to AMD. One that will be read and summarily ignored.

I must say, it's not doing too shabby for a GPU design from 2016 (I know it was released 2017, but it's just a rebranded Titan X with less memory and ROPs anyway)... the gap between slow and fast GPUs on Starfield is really small due to the extreme CPU performance issues. I think you may even squeeze a little more out of that lemon when/if Bethesda optimizes the game engine a bit. Modders sure have started taking their shot at it.

Sorry to see you didn't like it. I'm having a blast with it... then again I just have that weakness for Todd and his sweet little lies. This game's unexpectedly awesome. Grittier than TES or Fallout, it feels like the games grew up with me. I can't wait to see how it's going to look like a year from now.

Well maybe not very memory sensitive unless they were still GPU limited (might be with no upscaling)...

Need to see how DDR4-3200 performs.

The resolution doesn’t seem to matter like I thought it would. Using it at 1080p to stream onto my ally was still stuck at medium with almost the same frame rates.

I do need to look into tweaking the ram some to see if that helps free up some limitations. I honestly think it was only running at 2133 after a bad boot a while back. I’m sure 3200 will free up some frames. The CPU certainly isn’t doing any work. I think I have seen one core running 80-90% load, then about 15 others chugging in the teens and 20’s.

I would be curious to see how it performed even with marginal SLI support. At this point I can’t even get it to throw anything at the other card.

@Dr. Dro at least fsr3 frame generation is open source, that's more than I can say for proprietary dlss3 frame generation. leather jackets are expensive and marble inlaid kitchens are so pretty after all, got to pay for that somehow i guess.

Being open-source isn't exactly a major virtue here as DLSS can be freely implemented even in paid mods (see: the Starfield upscaler mentioned earlier in the thread: the author asks $5 on patreon for access for the version with DLSS frame generation support, and even implemented a DRM which requires you to validate your patreon account as a paying customer to avoid mod piracy - that's the depths of insanity we've reached), it just can't be built from source.

And again, it's all about customer agency: sure, FSR works on Nvidia, but it doesn't have the best results, and even if it did, who's AMD to decide for you what technology you should be using? It's this very reasoning that drove me away from the PS3 when I built my first PC in 2008, I don't want billionaire megacorporations deciding how do I get to experience my gaming or use my hardware.

@Dr. Dro starfield has frame generation support? How is this possible, I thought that was not open source from nvidia so how does this author have access to make a mod for that he can sell on patreon...

Benchmark Scores None, but I think they'd be fairly decent.
Now compare both at launch for the most honest comparison ;)

Not sure why that's the most honest comparison. For me, at any rate, it's a perfectly pointless and uninteresting comparison.

If a game I want to play arrives buggy and takes a week, or two, or three to reach a properly playable state, then that's perfectly fine with me as long as the game eventually works well technically and is worth playing. I'm no longer 14 and have gained some impulse control over the years, so I'm perfectly content to wait for a while.

As for Starfield, it delivered from the start as far as I'm concerned, although I've got a decent rig to run it on. However, had it been real mess and taken months to sort out it would still have been no big deal, given that it's a game I know I'll be playing semi-regularly for at least the next ten years and more thanks to a legion of skilled modders. That's not something I can say about games from any other outfit than BethSoft.

So Lawsuit for that guy and cease and desist for the patreon that is offering starfield frame generation incoming. Patreon will comply if nvidia takes action.....

In that article the following was said;
I seriously can’t believe what’s happening right now in the PC gaming space. On one hand, you have Bethesda collaborating with AMD and skipping the best upscaling technique. On the other hand, you have modders trying to make some money by releasing paid mods. And now we have people cracking paid mods. What in hell?

John Papadopoulos 9-4-2023
Right there with you John.

WTF?!? Since when? I have NEVER had that thought.. Just seems dumb as doggy doop to me.

So I've been playing it for about a day now. Probably 8hrs in.

It isn't a good game. It looks like shit, runs like shit, very repetitive, and isn't open world or seamless like they were promising. No man's sky did it better.

Honestly, wtf Bethesda.

Open source or proprietary doesn't mean anything in this case. Yes, in theory anyone can get FSR and mod it for their engines, while they can't do that with DLSS, but nobody does that, they just use whatever amd / nvidia provides them. Both are free, there really is no difference.

That's pretty funny, it's amusing AMDs anti-consumer partnership with Bethesda has created a market for DLSS mods, with demand being so high, even the mods have been cracked!
